Pumpkin Pie 🥧
This morning our Discoverers (2-3) used some pumpkins and various ingredients for a pumpkin pie inspired sensory tray!
The children mixed all the ingredients up, and worked together as they explored! They even figured out which ingredients to mix to make play dough!

What a fantastic and busy National Nutrition Week we’ve had! Our little chefs were completely immersed in the joy of good food. 👩🏽🍳
We spent the week exploring to our full potential! Baking healthy cookies, making our own unique smoothies, squeezing orange juice, and even adventuring to the local cafe! The Very Hungry Caterpillar also inspired some creative and messy sensory play. 🐛
Seeing the children so excited about where food comes from and how to make healthy choices has been the absolute best part.
Future foodies in the making! 🍊👨🏼🍳

🧑🏼🍳 National Nutrition Week 🧑🏼🍳
We had a special visitor in the kitchen today!
One of our wonderful dads came in and helped all the children make a fresh batch of sultana cookies!
The kids loved getting hands-on, mixing the batter and learning how our food is made, but they loved eating them for afternoon tea even more!

Exploring our community! ☕️
Our Discoverers (2-3 years) have been exploring cooking and nutrition lately, so we took that interest out into the community this morning! 🧑🏽🍳
We walked to our local cafe, soaked up some sun and they got to enjoy a babychino! ☕️
On the way back, we couldn’t resist stopping to pick some flowers! 🌸

Exploring Space Week! 🪐🧑🏽🚀🌟
This week at HECC we’re diving into ‘World Space Week’. We’re using this as the starting point for some fun project-based learning opportunities as we explore planets, aliens, and stars. 💫👽
This morning, our Discoverers (2-3) created a space themed tipping and pouring sensory tray. The children even suggested the colours we should use! A few of them spontaneously suggested that we should make space potions, we decided to make alien, planet, and earth potions! 🧪🌎
We love when their imaginations take the lead! 💫

In honour of the Fathers, Grandfathers and Father Figures at Hunter Early Childhood Centre we came together for a beautiful afternoon tea. A huge thank you to all who joined us for such a lovely celebration .
Have you ever wondered what our preschool room (3-5yrs) looks like?
Take a swipe to find out.
✨ Throughout our play-based preschool program, learning unfolds naturally — through mud pies, block towers, dress-ups, and big belly laughs. Every moment of play is intentionally woven with opportunities for children to grow, explore, and develop the skills they’ll carry into their school years and beyond.
School readiness isn’t a checklist — it’s embedded in everything we do. From social-emotional growth to early literacy, problem-solving to independence, we’re building strong, capable learners from the inside out. 🌱💛
Hunter Early Childhood Centre was first founded in 1963, originally named ‘Hunter Women’s Childcare Service’, the centre operated within Hunter Women’s Centre to support women as they were returning to the workforce. In 1998, the serviced moved to its very own, purpose built, space next door to Hunter Women’s Centre and became Six Hats Early Childhood Centre. In 2019 the service was reinvented as Hunter Early Childhood Centre (HECC) to re-establish our partnership with Hunter Women’s Centre. Forty years on, HECC still operates with the same core values and vision established by our founding members of the community.
HECC’s primary focus is to provide high quality education and care to children and their families within the Hunter that is based on the following principals;
| Monday | 7am - 6pm |
| Tuesday | 7am - 6pm |
| Wednesday | 7am - 6pm |
| Thursday | 7am - 6pm |
