“What if we built our own city?”… our curious thinkers in Kindergarten!

One simple question sparked a whole new adventure in kindergarten

After becoming confident using our Bee-Bots and navigating the city mats, the children were ready to take their learning further.

This time, the city was theirs to design!

Working together, the children created roads, bridges, roundabouts, buildings and special places for their Bee-Bots to visit. Their ideas quickly grew into a collaborative city full of imagination and possibilities.

💬 Sonny: “Let’s build a stadium so the people can watch soccer!”

💬 Billie: “I made a roundabout to drive around. The Bee-Bot can live inside it.”

💬 Henry: “It can drive under the bridge, see?”

Once their city was built, the children began programming their Bee-Bots to travel through the streets and reach different destinations.

They had to carefully consider direction, distance, sequencing and prediction, testing their ideas and adjusting their instructions when things didn’t quite go to plan.

Along the way, there was plenty of collaboration — sharing ideas, negotiating, problem-solving, taking turns and celebrating each other’s creations.

What began as a Bee-Bot experience evolved into a rich, child-led project bringing together technology, construction, creativity, communication, mathematical thinking and problem-solving.

Most importantly, the children were confidently directing their own learning, with their ideas shaping where the experience would go next.

We wonder where our Bee-Bots will take us next!

Steve the Bee Man is back at Munchkins this week!

We were so excited to welcome Steve the Bee Man back to Munchkins this week as we continued our learning about native bees and what it means to be a responsible beekeeper and environmental steward.

Steve helped us deepen our knowledge about our very own native bee hive, extending the children’s understanding of these incredible little pollinators and the important role they play within our environment.

The children were put to the test as they proudly shared their growing knowledge and joined in activities that challenged them to identify, remember and demonstrate the skills needed to care for and support our native bee community.

It was wonderful to see the children confidently sharing what they know, asking questions and making connections to their previous learning.

Through experiences like these, children are developing a genuine sense of responsibility, care and connection to the natural world, while building the knowledge and capacity to become active environmental citizens.

A big thank you to Steve for continuing to share his knowledge and passion with us. We are very proud of our little native bee champions!

Learning, Growing & Thinking Deeply Together

This week, our incredible team across our centres travelled to Brisbane to immerse themselves in professional learning with Claire Warden, exploring the powerful philosophy and practice of the Floorbook approach.

Floorbooks are so much more than a place to record children’s learning. They are a way of making children’s thinking, ideas, questions, theories and voices visible. They create a space where children are active participants in shaping their learning — confidently sharing their ideas, revisiting their thinking, asking questions, making connections and directing where their learning might go next.

At the heart of this approach is the belief that children are capable, competent, confident learners and active citizens. We want our children to know that their ideas matter, their voices are valued and that they have agency in their own learning. When children are genuinely involved in documenting and directing their learning, they develop the confidence to question, problem-solve, make decisions, self-advocate and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

We are incredibly proud of our teachers who continually seek to deepen their knowledge, challenge their thinking and extend their practice. They don’t simply teach — they listen, observe, reflect, research, question and learn alongside children.

Professional learning like this is a reflection of the commitment our team makes every day to becoming the very best educators they can be. They are constantly striving to create richer experiences, stronger relationships and environments where children can flourish and achieve exceptional outcomes.

We thank you, value you and appreciate you — for your curiosity, your dedication, your professionalism and, most importantly, for the way you show up every day for our children.

We can’t wait to see how this learning comes to life across our Studios and, most importantly, how our children’s voices, ideas and thinking become even more visible in their learning journeys.

Because when educators keep learning, children’s possibilities keep growing!

Early Childhood Educators’ Day

Today, we invite our families to pause for a moment and recognise the extraordinary people who care for, nurture and educate your children each and every day.

Behind every happy face at drop-off, every new skill, every discovery, every friendship and every little moment of growing independence is a team of dedicated early childhood professionals who work tirelessly to create meaningful experiences and beautiful childhoods.

Our teachers and educators bring professionalism, knowledge, patience, creativity and, most importantly, heart to their work every single day.

They listen to your children.
They notice the little things.
They celebrate their achievements.
They comfort them when they need reassurance.
They challenge their thinking.
They advocate for them.
They nurture their confidence and independence.
And they build the trusting relationships that make children feel that they truly belong.

They also support you, our families — listening, communicating, reassuring, sharing the joys and challenges of the early years and working alongside you because we know that the strongest outcomes for children come when families and educators work together.

Early childhood education is incredibly important work. The foundations our educators help build during these precious early years can stay with children for a lifetime.

So today, we ask you to take a moment to say thank you to an educator who has made a difference to your child or your family.

A kind word. A smile. A handwritten note. A simple “We appreciate you.”

It means more than you might realise.

Our team is the very best of the best — dedicated professionals who give so much of themselves to your children and to our community.

To our incredible educators:
You are more important, respected and valued by our families than you could ever truly know. ❤️

And to our families — thank you for trusting us with the people you love most.

Today, let’s celebrate the amazing people who make our early learning community so special.

Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day to our extraordinary team!

We are incredibly proud of you

Celebrating Our Amazing Young Creators!

This morning, our children have been absolutely delighted to celebrate the return of their incredible work from the Gold Coast Show!

There is something so special about seeing children’s faces light up as they recognise their creations and proudly share them with their friends and educators.

Take a moment to swing by and have a look at the amazing work on display — a beautiful reflection of just how capable, competent, creative and confident our children are.

Behind every creation is a story of imagination, persistence, problem-solving, decision-making and a willingness to have a go.
We couldn’t be prouder of our young artists and the learning that sits behind every piece.

Come and celebrate their achievements with us!

Book Week has been incredible… but the BESTEST part was our super special visitor!

Studio Four had a very special guest join us for Book Week — Karlene, Sebby’s mum, who is a wonderful Prep teacher!

Karlene shared two much-loved favourites with the children: The Very Cranky Bear and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy.

The children were captivated as she brought the stories to life, joining in with familiar words, characters and plenty of excitement!

Studio Three also came along to share in the special experience, making it a wonderful celebration of stories, connection and community.

We absolutely LOVE when our families become part of our curriculum and share their knowledge, passions and talents with us. These moments create such a strong sense of belonging for our children and remind us what makes our Munchkins community so special. 🌸

Our families really are the absolute BEST!

Counting down the days… reminder that Friday -Gold Coast Show Public holiday we hope to meet our children at 9.15am outside the Broadwater chapel (map attached).

Look out for our team and we will wander through to celebrate the children’s work from 9.30am

Hope to see as many of you there as we can… if you can’t make it on Friday, the display is open on the weekend.. you don’t need to enter the show to take a look.

It’s such a wonderful celebration of community with artworks from children and adults… from clay pieces, water colours, sculptures, cooking, sewing, photography and everything between!

See you there!

Our Final Gold Coast Show Entries!

Our gingerbread men and ladies have officially come to life!

What a wonderful creative experience we shared as the children designed and decorated their fabulous characters, using colourful icing and an array of bright lollies to bring their ideas to life.

Each child carefully planned, designed, problem-solved and created, transforming a simple gingerbread cookie into a unique little character that reflected their own imagination and creativity.

There was plenty of conversation, collaboration and excitement as the children shared ideas, made choices and proudly watched their creations take shape.

We are incredibly proud of our final Gold Coast Show entries and can’t wait to see our children’s wonderful creations on display! We can’t wait until Friday!!

Good luck to all our incredible Munchkins artists!

Science Week in Studio 2 — Learning Through Water

Science Week has continued in Studio 2 with a hands-on water experience full of wonder, discovery and connection.

As the children poured, transferred and watched the water flow through the cups, they explored cause and effect and began to make meaning of what they were seeing. “What happens if I pour it here?”

“Where will the water go?” — simple moments becoming rich opportunities for scientific thinking.

But this experience was about more than science.

As the children smiled, watched one another, shared ideas and celebrated their discoveries together, they developed a strong sense of belonging and connection.

Through play, children learn to notice the perspectives of others, communicate, collaborate and build an understanding of the world around them.

At Munchkins we believe the most powerful learning happens when curiosity, relationships and intentional teaching come together — turning everyday experiences into meaningful opportunities for learning.

Science Week in Kindergarten!

Science Week has been so much fun in Kindergarten

Our children have immersed themselves in a range of hands-on experiences designed to challenge, inspire and motivate curious minds.

From programming our Bee-Bots and thinking carefully about directions, sequencing, algorithms and problem-solving, to making our very own bread rolls, we have been discovering that science is everywhere!

Our bread-making investigation was a particular favourite! We mixed, observed, predicted and investigated what happened when our ingredients came together, discovering the fascinating chemical and physical changes that transformed our mixture into dough.

And the best part?

Kneading!

There was something wonderfully satisfying about squishing, stretching, pushing and working the dough with our hands while developing coordination, strength and sensory awareness.

This is science at its best — hands-on, meaningful and full of wonder.

When children can touch it, test it, question it, predict it and experience it for themselves, science becomes something they don’t just learn about… they experience it.

At Munchkins our Kindergarten program nurtures confident thinkers, capable problem-solvers and curious learners who are encouraged to wonder, investigate and discover how the world works.
