JJ Cahill Memorial High School, is a co-educational school in Mascot, NSW. JJCMHS caters for the needs of students with a wide range of academic ability.
Students come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The school's support unit caters for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities as well as students with an autism diagnosis. On Tuesday 2 June, our junior Aboriginal girls participated in the Sista Speak mentoring program, connecting to culture and community. Under the guidance of Aunty Carrine Liddell, they explored the rich history of Shellwork, learning how these beautiful pieces are crafted and the importance of passing this knowledge through generations. The girls also enjoyed a special session with Avalon Pallier, focusing on skincare and wellbeing, they created their own lip scrubs using native ingredients. This program provides a safe place to come together and learn from our local Elders.

A beautiful afternoon tea prepared by Mr Truss and our Year 12 Hospitality class, featuring a delicious selection of dishes incorporating native ingredients. It was wonderful to see our Aboriginal families, students, community members and staff come together to connect, share stories and enjoy time together following our Reconciliation Week assembly last Wednesday afternoon 🖤💛❤️

On Wednesday 3 June, we came together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week with an inspiring student-led assembly, followed by a beautiful afternoon tea prepared by Mr Truss and his Year 12 cookery class, featuring delicious dishes with native ingredients. A special thank you to Aunty Karen and all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who led and supported the day, and to Ms Johnson and Ms Garden for leading such a powerful assembly with our kids.
