St Mary’s Primary School offers all students an affordable, quality Christian education in the Catholic tradition. We welcome all students to our school.

St Mary’s has been an important part of the Maryborough Community for over 150 years. The first Catholic school here opened in 1858 and was the beginnings of the school we now refer to as St Mary’s Primary, although it was not known by that name. This makes St Mary’s the oldest still operating Catholic School in Queensland. The school was staffed by lay people until 1870 when the first Sisters arr

🌟 Spotlight on Year 5J – Time for Tea! ☕🍰

Today, the Year 5J students hosted a delightful tea party during first break for the teachers and staff of St Mary's Primary School, raising funds for the Cancer Council as part of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.

The idea for this special event was inspired by our recent English unit, Tigg and the Bandicoot Bushranger. In the story, Tigg visits a tearoom, and before reading that section of the text, students were challenged to describe what they imagined the tearoom would be like. Using a picture stimulus of a 19th-century tearoom, the students produced some wonderfully descriptive writing.

From there, the idea grew—why not experience a real tearoom for ourselves? The students enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to become waiters and waitresses, serving guests with pride and professionalism.

They worked hard to decorate the venue, prepare delicious treats, and create a welcoming atmosphere for their guests. The class then decided to turn the event into a fundraiser for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, helping to raise much-needed funds for the Cancer Council.

We are so proud of the creativity, teamwork, enthusiasm, and community spirit shown by our Year 5J students. Well done, everyone! 💛

💡Year 3 Spotlight💡
This morning, our Year 3 students gathered in the convent to celebrate a special liturgy focused on the Beatitudes. Through prayer, reflection and song, students explored how we can show kindness, humility and compassion in our everyday lives, just as Jesus teaches us.

We would like to say a sincere thank you to the parents and families who joined us. It was wonderful to share this meaningful and reflective experience together, and your presence made the morning even more special.

💡Spotlight in Year 1💡

Year 1 Bring the African Savanna to Life!
Excitement filled the Year 1 classrooms last week during a hands-on science lesson!

Our young zoologists designed brilliant 3D dioramas to showcase their knowledge of the habitats of their chosen African animals.
Students had to ensure each habitat provided the three essential survival needs of food, water, and shelter to suit their chosen animal.

Creativity took over as majestic lions lurked in tall grasses, hippos wallowed in muddy rivers, zebras and giraffes roamed the plains, and warthogs hid safely in burrows. The final masterpieces looked absolutely amazing!
