📚 Scholastic Book Club – Issue 6 is Open! 📚

Book Club forms went home last week, and orders are due by Wednesday 2 September.

There are some great reads in Issue 6 for all ages, including:

There are also plenty of graphic novels, early readers, non-fiction, activity books and books linked to popular favourites like Bluey, Minecraft, Pokémon, Dog Man and The Bad Guys.
Reading is a big part of learning at Sunbury, and Book Club is another great way to help children discover books they genuinely want to read. 💙

Families can order online through Scholastic LOOP. Parents simply log in or create an account, select their child, school and Issue 6, enter the item numbers and pay online.

What a week we have ahead! There is so much happening across our school, and we are especially excited as Book Week finally arrives. 💙

🎭 Friday - Book Week Dress-Up Parade
One of our favourite Sunbury traditions is almost here!

Our Book Week parade begins at 9:00am, and we would love to see as many students as possible dressed as a favourite book character.
Families are warmly invited to come along and share the morning with us. We cannot wait to see the Hall filled with characters, colour and imagination! 📚✨

♟️ Tuesday - Interschool Chess Tournament
A small team of Sunbury students will head to St Mary’s College to represent our school at the Wide Bay South Interschool Chess Tournament.

We are incredibly proud to see another group of students stepping forward to represent Sunbury, and we wish our chess team a fantastic day! 💙♟️

🏊 Swimming - Prep/1L and 1L
Swimming lessons continue this week for our youngest swimmers.

🏆 Monday Parade
Our regular whole-school parade begins from 2:20pm. Families are always welcome.

🍞 Tuesday & Wednesday - Breakfast Club
A warm start to the morning with toast, milk and some friendly Sunbury faces.

☀️ PBL Focus - Be Sun Safe
Our No Hat, No Active Play focus continues as we work together to keep our students safe in the Queensland sun.

It’s another week full of learning, opportunity, creativity and community at Sunbury.

📚✨ Book Week is almost here! ✨📚

Less than two weeks to go until one of our favourite Sunbury traditions returns.

On Friday 28 August, students are invited to bring a favourite book character to life for our Book Week Dress-Up Parade from 9:00am in the Hall. Families are warmly invited to come along and celebrate with us.

Start planning those costumes, dust off a favourite story and get ready for a morning full of imagination, creativity and Book Week fun. 💙

🍓🥪 Big Learning in a Simple Jam Sandwich 🥪🍓
There is a lot more happening here than making lunch.

Our Prep/1L students have been using a familiar, hands-on experience to strengthen some really important English skills. As they made their jam sandwiches, students had to think carefully about the order of each step, choose the right words to explain what they were doing and listen to the ideas of others.

Now they are using that experience to practise presenting clear step-by-step instructions to the class, while also learning how to give reasons and persuade others.

For our youngest learners, these everyday experiences are powerful. They help build vocabulary, confidence, speaking and listening skills, sequencing and the ability to communicate ideas clearly.

And of course, learning is always a little more memorable when you can eat the finished product. 😊

We are so proud of the way our Prep/1L students are growing in confidence as communicators and turning real-life experiences into meaningful learning. 💙
