Last week, we went on a wonderful excursion to The Story Bank as part of Family Day Care Week.

The children were excited from the moment we arrived and loved exploring the beautiful old building filled with displays, and interactive activities inspired by P. L. Travers and the magical world of Mary Poppins.

The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity for learning, social interaction, and building confidence in a new environment.

A couple of weeks ago, we introduced baby chickens into our family day care environment. This experience is providing the children with a wonderful opportunity to engage with animals in a calm and nurturing way.

Today we explored sensory play with rainbow rice. The children were scooping, tipping, and pouring, using their hands and a variety of tools to fill small bowls and egg cups. This hands-on experience supported the development of fine motor skills, coordination, and early mathematical concepts such as volume and capacity—all while engaging their senses in a fun and creative way.

Creative Fun at Busy Butterflies Family Day Care

Today my little learners explored their creativity in a colourful and exciting way! Using spray bottles filled with water and food colouring, the children had a wonderful time creating vibrant masterpieces on a large sheet.

This activity supports the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) by encouraging:
- Creativity and self-expression
- Fine motor skill development
- Confidence and independence
- Exploration through sensory play

The joy on their faces as they mixed colours and watched their artwork come to life was simply priceless!

During our special learning experience on Recycling Play and Loose Parts, the children explored loose parts outdoors using small recycled cable reels. The children showed great interest in stacking the reels, moving them around the yard and experimenting with different ways to build with them.
