We scribbled down all the things we love and turned them into the cutest little bud vases—each one totally unique and bursting with personality! We jazzed them up with some wiggly, colorful pipe cleaner flowers ( a bit tricky but we got there with a bit of help) and just like that, happiness in a vase!

Exploring vintage illustration on everyday objects - postcards and envelopes

This week our young artists took on a BIG challenge — creating Fire Horse artworks for Lunar New Year using ink!

Horses are already one of the hardest animals to draw — capturing their movement, strength, and proportions takes real focus. And ink- Even harder!
We were originally meant to create these on rice paper ( that's for another time now), but using ink with gradients and textured techniques gave the students an incredible opportunity to experiment with their artwork. They explored blending tones, creating depth, and building texture to bring their horses to life. We used some tea for the background or warm red tones to make them joyful ( if the kids wanted )

And goodness — I am SO proud of them.
Each student created their own stunning horse — some powerful and bold, some graceful and flowing, and yes… even a few magical unicorns made their appearance!

Along the way, we also learned:
What “inner fire” means — the spark of determination and passion inside us
What the Horse represents in Lunar New Year traditions — strength, freedom, energy, and perseverance

So very proud of my students and the heart they poured into their work. 💛

This week we explored creative lettering, using the letters of our names to show a little bit of who we are and things we like. We looked at different examples from a few books.

Shaping letters and trying to match what they imagine can feel tricky — and sometimes frustrating. We talk a lot about how art is play, art is experimenting, and making mistakes!! Doing it “wrong” is often part of finding something that feels just right.

The lovely part is watching them surprise themselves! A letter turned into a character, a pattern, or a tiny story. You can see their confidence grow as they realise their ideas matter and their creativity is completely their own and those quiet little moments are my favourite part of the class .

Learning about Mexican art and its beautiful motifs .

The kids explored Amate art, discovering how flowers and birds are commonly used to tell stories about nature and culture. Students created their own flower compositions, filling them with vibrant colours using oil pastels.

Understanding Van Gogh’s expressive approach, this art lesson focused on emotion through line and colour. Every mark was thoughtfully made to capture the mood within the landscape.

Inspired by his swirling skies and dynamic wheat fields, the children used oil pastels to explore movement and energy, capturing the essence of a visual language so beautifully found in vast skies and flowing grass. I love how minimalist the compositions are, yet how full they feel — rich with emotion, motion, and atmosphere.

2025 ended with painting Xmas tees, Klimt golden trees and Santa with delicious treats!
