StEPS Vision Screening

On 6 and 8 October, we welcomed the StEPS Vision Screening team to SmartPlay for a free vision screening assessment for our four-year-old children.

StEPS is an initiative of the NSW Ministry of Health, supporting families to identify any vision concerns early. Eye checks are especially important as children prepare for the transition to formal schooling.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to support the wellbeing of our children, assist our families, and strengthen our connections with the local health community.

From Garden to Table!

Back in May, our Shepherd children planted carrots and peas, and now the exciting moment has arrived -- harvest time!

The children loved harvesting the vegetables they had been patiently growing and getting to taste the fruits (and veggies!) of their labour. A beautiful garden-to-table experience filled with discovery, hands-on learning, and healthy eating. Nothing beats the taste of something you have grown yourself!

NAPCAN Week (6-12 Sept)

Over the past few weeks, our educators have been engaging the children in meaningful conversations about feeling safe, speaking up and knowing who they can go to for help.

We have been using books from the SAFE Series, meeting characters who helped the children learn about personal safety and protective behaviours. The children talked about their Five Safe People or Heroes. The trusted adults they know they can turn to when they feel worried, unsure or need some help.

We also extended our conversations to safety within our wider community, learning about different community helpers and the important roles they play in helping and caring for others.

These conversations help children build confidence in using their voices, recognising people they can trust, and understanding that their feelings, questions and safety matter.

Spring has sprung!
Learn what fruits and vegetables are in season.

Our SmartPlay Vacation Care Program is ready! We are so excited for 2 weeks of fun this coming school holidays.

When: Monday 28th September to Friday 9th October 2026
Hours: 6.30am-6.30pm
Fees: $90/day
What to bring: Morning tea, lunch, hat, water bottle and enclosed shoes

🚨 Important - SmartPlay will be closed on Monday 5th October and our phones will be unattended.
