As Australia Day approaches, we take this time to reflect, listen and learn.

At Maroubra Playtime Early Education Centre, we extend our deepest respect to the Traditional Owners and enduring custodians of this land — the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We honour their continuing connection to land, waters and culture, and recognise that this always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.

Some of you may remember meeting our friend Echidna in last year’s posts 🦔. This little character is such a beautiful symbol of Australia! As one of the world’s very few egg-laying mammals, the short-beaked echidna represents the uniqueness of Australian wildlife, our rich biodiversity, and the resilience and adaptability found across this land.

Echidnas also hold significance in Indigenous culture and are a familiar part of modern Australian identity — making Echidna a meaningful way for children to connect with Australia’s story through learning, curiosity and respect.

We look forward to exploring this together with our Maroubra Playtime learning community.

Today, Maroubra Playtime Child Care Centre is proud to support The Fathering Project, an incredible initiative that empowers dads and father-figures to strengthen their connection with their children.

We also want to share a fantastic resource from The Fathering Project:
