Your body is incredible.
During labour, it releases the perfect combination of hormones to guide you through birth in the safest, most natural way. These hormonesâlike oxytocin, beta-endorphins, adrenaline, and prolactinâwork together to help your labour progress, manage sensations, and prepare you and your baby for bonding and breastfeeding.
When we trust the process and create an environment that feels calm, safe, and private, these hormones flow just as nature intended. Dim lights, soothing sounds, and support from people who believe in you can help your body do exactly what itâs designed to do.
Birth is instinctive. Itâs primal. Itâs perfectly orchestrated by your bodyâs own wisdom.

Informed Consent: The Theme of Birth Trauma Awareness Week
If you donât know you can say âNo,â itâs coercion, NOT consent.
As we mark this yearâs Birth Trauma Awareness Week, the focus on informed consent couldnât be more critical. Many women who come to me for birth education are unaware that they have the right to say NO to their care providers and hospital policies.
In reality, care providers are there to recommend what they think is best or give advice based on hospital policy. But often, these recommendations are presented in a way that makes women feel they canât refuse. During pregnancy and childbirth, womenâs autonomy is frequently not respected, and itâs the care providers who ultimately decide what happens. This is NOT informed consent. This is coercion. This is unethical. And this needs to change.
Every woman deserves to have her voice heard and her choices respected. Informed consent means understanding all your options, knowing the risks and benefits, and making decisions that feel right for you and your baby.

April ~ Caesarean Section Awareness Month â¤ď¸
Firstly I just want to say Big love to all c-section mothers. This topic can evoke significant emotions, and itâs absolutely okay to feel a range of emotionsâwhether itâs sadness, disappointment, anger, or any other sentiment. Hold space for yourself, allowing yourself to experience and process these feelings with compassion. Remember, you birthed your baby, and you are incredible â¤ď¸
~
Cesarean sections are undoubtedly life-saving surgeries in certain situations, but the World Health Organisation (WHO) suggests that no country should have a c-section rate exceeding 10-15%. Research indicates that beyond this threshold, higher rates of c-sections do not necessarily lead to better outcomes for mothers or babies.
In Australia, the c-section rate stands at a staggering 38%, far exceeding the WHOâs recommended range. Whatâs even more alarming is that the primary determinant of a womanâs likelihood of having a c-section isnât her medical risks or personal preferences, but rather the place where she gives birth and the individuals providing her care. This highlights the significant impact of birthing environment and healthcare providers on birth outcomes.
Many women may not realise that while some c-sections are indeed medically necessary, a substantial proportion are the result of a cascade of interventions that disrupt the natural course of physiological birth. Avoidable c-sections often stem from routine and unnecessary interventions offered to women during labour, ultimately interfering with the natural progression of childbirth.
Itâs essential to recognise that the consequences of a c-section extend beyond the immediate birth experience, affecting all subsequent pregnancies. Women who have undergone a c-section are typically labeled as high risk, which can pose challenges for those seeking a vaginal birth after cesarean in the future.
Addressing the overuse of c-sections requires a multifaceted approach, including promoting evidence-based maternity care practices, reducing unnecessary interventions, and supporting womenâs informed decision-making throughout pregnancy and birth.

When you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change â¨
In our society, birth has become heavily medicalised and laden with fear. Weâve grown accustomed to intervening and disrupting the natural process in an attempt to exert control, leading to a loss of faith in womenâs birthing abilities.
This fear and interference can significantly disrupt the natural flow of birth, inhibiting the release of hormones like oxytocin which are essential for labours progression.
Many mothers, upon attending my class, experience a profound shift in perspective regarding birth. They are reminded that birth isnât merely a medical event but a natural physiological process of the body. This realisation often transforms their mindset, instilling in them a deep sense of capability and instinctual knowledge. They come to understand that their bodies and minds inherently know how to birth; itâs an innate wisdom that requires no external teaching.
Itâs astonishing for many women to realise that they need not fear birth; instead, they can eagerly anticipate the arrival of their baby.
If you want to develop your understanding of a physiological birth and how to change your mindset in the lead up to birthing your baby Iâd love to connect with you.

𪡠Birth Visualisations đŞˇ
Just as a flower blooms, delicately unfurling its petals, so too does the cervix, softening and opening with each passing moment.
Visualise the cervix as a radiant blossom, unfolding gracefully with each breath, each sensation a testament to the intricate dance of birth. Surrender to the ebb and flow, allowing the journey to unfold in its own divine timing.
For like the flowers in a garden, each bloom follows its own unique rhythm, unfurling in its own time and in its own way. And so it is with birth â we surrender to the wisdom of the body, trusting in the inherent knowledge that resides within.
Want to know more about visualisation as a tool for your birth? Iâd love to guide you through the Positive Birth Program where we dive into visualisations for birth.
With love,
Chloe â¤ď¸
