What an incredible long weekend out at Kokoda Park! 🏕️

We had the pleasure of hosting an amazing group from Horizons Unlimited for their Premier Overland Adventure Travel Event for Motorcyclists & Travellers - a community built for people who love exploring the road less travelled! 🏍️

The weekend was packed full of inspiring presentations hosted through our camp facilities, fun outdoor activities with evenings spent camping under the stars.

NOTRE DAME ARE ON THE TRAINING TRAIL 👣
Students from Notre Dame College are in full training mode for our Kokoda Challenge on the Sunshine Coast 💪 In 3 weeks' time, their teams will walk in the footsteps of our 1942 Kokoda veterans, honouring the legacy of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice. For Notre Dame, our Kokoda Challenge is becoming a powerful school tradition. This year, the College have entered their Year 7 and 8 cohorts because they believe it is helping shape a school culture of resilience and teamwork. In a recent article, Principal Dan McShea shared: "When students and teachers step outside the classroom and into a shared challenge, something shifts. Conversations deepen, encouragement flows, and real connections are built. It’s in these moments — muddy, tough, and unforgettable — that young people learn they’re capable of more than they thought possible."

We’re so proud to see Notre Dame College, and many others, embracing the Challenge this year to build a lasting legacy of resilience, camaraderie and character.

Camp life was in full swing as the Year 11 students from Bishop Druitt College joined us recently for a fun filled couple of days packed with adventure and new, exciting experiences! 💥

From facing challenges to forming new friendships, camp was full of energy, teamwork and core memories made. Lessons from the classroom may not always be remembered, but the memories made through shared experiences at camp will last a lifetime!

We recently welcomed participants from Gold Coast Recreation & Sport to Camp Kokoda and what an experience it turned out to be - facing fears and building new friendships! 🤍

Throughout the camp, the group embraced every challenge with courage and determination, stepping outside comfort zones and pushing themselves in new and exciting ways. From facing personal fears to taking on team challenges, it was inspiring to see their growth and resilience shine through! ✨

📺 WE’RE FEATURING ON 60 MINUTES THIS SUNDAY! 📺

We’re excited to share that this Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes on Channel 9 will feature our Digital Detox Program.

The episode will explore the growing issue of ‘Digital Dementia’ and highlights how initiatives like ours are helping teens find a healthier balance in our tech-saturated world. It will also feature research from leading neuroscientist Dr Mark Williams, revealing some eye-opening insights.

With footage filmed at our January DDP camp, the story also includes an interview with DDP 2023 graduate, Max Stove, who shared his personal journey with technology. We’re incredibly proud to have our work recognised and to showcase the positive change happening within our programs.

REAL STORIES > REAL IMPACT ❤️🖤

Since 2004, the Kokoda Youth Foundation has impacted the lives of over 1,300 youth program graduates — creating a powerful ripple effect through their families, schools and communities.

This week, we had the privilege of reconnecting with several of our recent graduates. Hearing their stories was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do - helping young people move from unproductive paths to positive futures grounded in the Kokoda values of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

🕺 Nick shared that he had always struggled to make friends. Through our program, he built the confidence to start conversations and step outside his comfort zone. Today, he has strong friendships and a new belief in himself that carries into every part of his life.

✈️ Adam, now in his final year of school, told us how he once channelled his energy into poor choices that frequently got him into trouble. Since doing OTRT and KCYP, that same energy is driving him toward his goal of becoming a pilot with Qantas.

🚩 Kathryn spoke about how she struggled with self-doubt. Our OTRT program helped her complete the 48km hiking challenge and realise she is capable of far more than she imagined - uncovering leadership strengths that contributed to her being appointed school captain this year.

📽️ These are just a few of the many stories of transformation from our fully funded youth programs and we can't wait to share their stories and more, via video in the coming months.

For young people who are struggling, the Kokoda Youth Foundation can be part of the solution - with our programs freely accessible to any young person keen to make positive change.
