🚨 Important Update for .AU Domain Owners (Effective 20 May 2026)
If you own a .au domain, there’s an important compliance change coming that could directly affect your website and email services.
From 20 May 2026, all .au domain renewals will require your ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number) to be current and active at the time of renewal.
If your business details don’t match an active registered entity within the renewal window, your domain may not be renewed.
⚠️ What this means for you:
- Your website could go offline
- Business emails may stop working
- Customers may lose access to your online presence
- Domain recovery may not always be possible once deleted
🔍 What you should do now:
- Check your ABN/ACN details linked to your domain
- Ensure your business registration is still active
- Update any outdated information before your renewal period
These changes apply across all .au domains and will be enforced at renewal within the 90-day renewal window.
✅ Tip: A quick WHOIS check now can help you avoid disruption later.

Recent Telstra firmware updates (notably affecting models like the v7610 and Gen 3 Smart Modems) have caused internet outages, causing routers to lose connection, display error lights, or appear "bricked". Fixes include performing a factory reset via the pinhole button, restarting the device, or calling Telstra to re-flash the firmware.
Immediate Actions to Take:
• Perform a Factory Reset: Locate the small "Reset" hole on the back of the modem. Press and hold with a paperclip for 15 seconds to force a reset.
• Power Cycle: Unplug the modem power cable, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in. Allow 5–10 minutes for it to reconnect and download updated, working firmware.
• Check Modem Lights: If the light is red or off, the update likely failed. A solid orange/red light indicates a failed connection.
• Contact Support: If the modem is unresponsive, call 132 999 to report the issue. Affected users have reported that Telstra may need to replace the modem if it is "bricked".
• Check DNS Settings: Some users found their custom DNS settings were reset to defaults, causing connectivity issues.
If you are using a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3, this issue is widespread and often requires a replacement or a technician-pushed update.
Note: For some users, this issue appeared as a "white light" of death or a failure to connect, often occurring after recent automatic overnight updates.
