๐ŸŒธ International Womenโ€™s Day 2026 ๐ŸŒธ

As we recognise International Womenโ€™s Day our Chief Operating Officer wanted to share a few words:

International Womenโ€™s Day is both a celebration of the achievements of women and a call to action for greater gender equality. While significant progress has been made over recent decades, serious barriers to justice and safety remain.

Globally, one in three women will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, and many will never seek formal support or justice. In Australia, conviction rates for sexual assault remain persistently low, highlighting the gap between legal protections and real outcomes for survivors.

This yearโ€™s theme, Balance the Scales, speaks strongly to me. To me, itโ€™s about keeping things fair and making sure women have real opportunities, real support and real influence in the workplace and in our communities. It reminds us that equality requires more than intention, it requires systemic change and a commitment to building environments that are inclusive, responsive and safe for every woman and girl.

For First Nations women, the challenges are particularly complex. Disproportionate levels of family violence, over representation in the justice system, and limited access to culturally safe legal support continue to create barriers. First Nations women are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence than non-Indigenous women. These statistics reinforce the urgent need for community-led, self-determined solutions that centre First Nations leadership and lived experience.

As a workforce made up of more than 70% women, we are uniquely positioned to lead by example. Every day, I see strength, resilience, intelligence and compassion demonstrated across our teams. I see women supporting families, strengthening communities, leading change and building futures.

As a First Nations organisation, we also carry the strength and wisdom of the women who came before us, the matriarchs, leaders, carers and knowledge holders who have sustained culture, community and Country for generations. Their legacy lives on in the work we do and in the way we support one another.

International Womenโ€™s Day encourages us to reflect on how we contribute to safer, stronger and more equitable communities. Meaningful progress requires listening, partnership and a commitment to dismantling barriers so that all women and girls can live with safety, dignity and opportunity. True progress takes more than words, it takes collective action.

To all the strong, capable and inspiring women across our organisation, thank you.

Today is a reminder to recognise your contribution and to keep pushing for workplaces and communities that are fair, respectful and inclusive.

Happy International Womenโ€™s Day. ๐Ÿ’œ

- Katie Peatey, Chief Operating Officer

โœจ Millyโ€™s Journey to Her Dream Career โœจ

From overcoming significant barriers to securing her dream role, Millyโ€™s story is one of resilience, determination and second chances.

Growing up in an unstable environment, Milly faced multiple challenges that impacted her pathway into training and employment. In 2023, she began studying her Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention with Peak Care College, even though her Blue Card had been withdrawn in 2021. She remained hopeful that one day she would be given the opportunity to prove she had changed.

After three years of persistence, reflection and growth, Milly was finally approved for her Blue Card in March 2025. Shortly after, she secured her dream job as a Residential Youth Worker.

Now working directly with young people, Milly draws on her lived experience to connect with empathy and authenticity.

โ€œI can relate to the challenges young people face because I have struggled myself. Getting my Blue Card back is a meaningful milestone that allows me to do my work with passion and dedication.โ€

Residential youth work can be challenging, but Millyโ€™s resilience and commitment are already making a real difference. With ongoing mentoring and a supportive employer, she is building a long-term career in the community sector and hopes to continue her studies in the future.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œEveryone deserves a second chance, and itโ€™s important to never give up.โ€

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of Milly and excited to see the positive impact she will continue to make in our community.

Our team was proud to attend the My Future Starts Here: Job Ready Summit in Strathpine.
An inspiring event bringing together local employers, community leaders and job seekers to explore pathways to employment and skills development.

The summit created a welcoming space to connect with industry, strengthen partnerships and meet individuals eager to grow their capabilities through training and meaningful work opportunities. Events like this play an important role in linking employers with skilled job seekers and supporting sustainable employment pathways in the community.

A huge thank you to ETC Ltd for hosting such a valuable and empowering event. We look forward to continuing these conversations and working together to support strong futures and employment outcomes.
