We have had a wonderful week and have loved seeing all of the costumes! From sensory trays and Centre library visits to Humpybong State School Choir performing for the children and making bookmarks for our friends at Beaumont Care Clontarf, it has been a busy week at Margate.

We have loved Science Week at Margate!

From volcanoes to rocket launching, our little scientists have had an inquiry-filled week.

Our incursion with Lab Kids explored air and pumps! Guided by the theme Think, Test, Evaluate, the children shared their ideas, made predictions, tested how air works, and evaluated their findings.

Together, they launched rockets, made bubbles, inflated balloons, and used an "air-zooka" to launch fog.

It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, and a love of science! We had a blast with Scientist Bev!

By embedding children’s rights into our daily practices and teaching, we are empowering children’s voices, agency, and autonomy.

Children are learning that their actions impact others, are learning to take responsibility for their behaviour, and are active contributors to a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where everyone’s rights are honoured.

To build on child safety and children’s rights, we are creating a “Margate Map” where children contribute their voices and art to show where they feel “safe.”

The Kindy 2 children added to our map today with flowers, houses, trees, and the beach.

As we delve into open-ended resources with the Creative Collection.

Our Junior Kindy children are finding joy and curiosity in light play with the magnetic tiles.

Creating shadows, rainbows, castles, and rocket ships, the children have enthusiastically expressed their interest in exploring space.

Educators champion children’s voices and agency and, through this new interest, are excited to collaborate, conduct research, and work alongside children to discover the wonders of space.

Cultivating a strong sense of identity in the Kindy 2 room with self-portraits.

The children had the opportunity to observe their features in the mirror before they painted today. "I have brown hair, I have blue eyes, I love rainbows."

We will revisit this activity later in the year as we prepare for our Graduation art display for our families.

Across our Centre, our Educators value the importance of embedding the core principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into daily play and routines.

Doing so helps children build a sense of fairness, respect, safety, and agency by letting their voices actively shape their learning environment.

Through storytelling, mark-making, and watercolour, our Junior Kindy children have created artwork that reflects their understanding of "Safe".

Following on from the children’s interest in camping roleplay, our Pre-Kindy Culinary Class focused on creating a picnic platter for afternoon tea.

Chef Corey assisted the children in cutting bananas and instructed them on threading the fruit onto skewers, while Chef Toby helped make fairy bread.

This experience encouraged the children to develop their self-help skills by safely using knives to cut fruit, spreading butter on bread, and carefully measuring the sprinkles.

In the afternoon, we served the food on platters, encouraged the children to use tongs to serve themselves, and enjoyed our picnic together on the verandah.
