Last weekend, Josie competed at Grappling Industries and took on some really tough matches on the mats.
She did exceptionally well, showing so much grit, resilience and courage throughout the competition. We are incredibly proud of her efforts, attitude and determination.
Josie has been training in our Kids BJJ classes for almost two years now with her brother, and it has been such a pleasure to watch her Jiu Jitsu journey and see how much she has grown - not only in her skills and confidence but also in the way she approaches challenges.
Competitions aren’t only about the result. They’re an excellent opportunity to test yourself, learn, build confidence and come back stronger. Josie showed exactly that.
There are many invaluable lessons that Jiu Jitsu teaches children - resilience through setbacks, confidence in themselves, discipline to keep showing up, and the courage to step outside their comfort zone. Lessons that carry with them in training and in everyday life.
We are so incredibly proud of you Josie, to see how far you’ve come and we can’t wait to see where your Jiu Jitsu journey takes you next 🥋👏🏼🤗

Last year Coach Shen travelled by himself to Japan to compete in the IBJJF Asia Open. This year he encouraged and motivated more of a team to make the trip, turning it into an unforgettable experience. 🇯🇵🥋
It takes a lot of dedication to travel overseas, step onto the mats in another country, and represent both Ironfist and Australia.
Great job to Shen, Nas, Scotty, Jay, Dilsher, Joey, and Sam! And a big thank you to Coach Shen for bringing the team together and supporting and coaching them through the journey. 🙏🏼
Here what Coach Shen has to say about the trip:
Asian Open 2026
This year on a promise of an adventure 6 team members went to Japan to compete at the Asian Open Bjj tournament 2026.
For some of the team they had never really worn the gi, and for others they had never owned a passport.
With a 7 week training camp & the promise of the best egg sandos for under $3; the team flew over and took home 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. An amazing effort.
Some highlights from the trip included:
- Nas beating last years European Champ and loosing on advantages to the World Champ.
- Jay entering his first comp and it being the gi as well (the Nogi guy) and having a great run to win silver in Absolute.
- And Scotty taking home the gold. Prior to the comp Scott had a foot injury which prevented him from training for the 3 weeks in the lead up.
Shout out to the support crew who also came along.
Shen

Over the weekend, Tim, Connor, Bryce, Aneeta, Lance, Joey, Stephen, Beau, Mac, Zane, Alexander, Tuan and Drew represented Ironfist at the QBJJC QLD State Championships at the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre.
Every one of them put on an outstanding performance. Many had long waits between matches throughout the day, but stayed focused and ready whenever it was time to step on the mats.
A special congratulations to Joey and Tim, who both took home gold in their divisions. And an amazing effort by Mac who competed both in Gi and No Gi in his weight class as well as in Absolute. 👏🏼
Thanks to Coach Gary and Coach Tayn for your support on the day, as well as all of our Ironfist coaches who guide and teach our members every session, and every week. Thanks to our teammates who came to support on the day as well as training partners throughout the past few months!
We’re incredibly proud of everyone who showed up to compete and everyone who came along to support. The camaraderie within our BJJ community is something special.
There’s nothing better than seeing our athletes test themselves in competition after months of hard training, while their teammates cheer them on from the sidelines. That support is what makes our team so strong. It keeps everyone motivated to keep showing up, keep improving and come back ready for the next challenge.🤗
Congratulations team! We look forward to seeing you all at the Grading this Saturday. 🥋
