FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Conditions of Entry Rules and Regulations (Guidelines)

1 All acts must conform to the requirements of a “One Act Play”, ie must be between 10 and 30 minutes long (except Monologues – minimum 5 mins) and be a complete story or performance

2 Scripts may be written by students, obtained from other sources, adapted from a story, or an excerpt from a longer play/musical which can stand alone as a short performance/One Act Play.

3 The writer must be acknowledged on the entry form. Any copyright issues with intellectual property that may exist are the responsibility of the School.

4 It is understood that Drama Teachers will be involved in either writing and/or directing a school performance, or will be involved in mentoring and assisting writers and directors. The level of teacher involvement must be indicated on the entry form in each instance.

5 Schools may enter in as many categories as practicable. There is no limit to the number of groups or acts a school may enter.

6 All troupes will be responsible for their own lighting, sound, music etc. Theatre technicians will be available at the venue to assist with, or to execute, lighting and sound directions. Students who perform these roles independently are also eligible for prizes in this category.

7 Sets for Plays need to be simple, transportable, able to be erected in 5 minutes or less during space between plays, and removed in 5 minutes or less at the conclusion of the play. Suitability of sets for this task, while also conveying context, are considered in the adjudication. (items such as tables may be borrowed with prior arrangement).

8 Troupes waiting backstage for their time to perform must remain quiet and respect the performance of others. Failure to do so risks penalty points or elimination.

9 All performers and staff will be given a complimentary pass to the festival. Students are encouraged to sit in the auditorium and watch other performances when not on stage or preparing to go on stage. Other visitors will pay a nominal entrance fee per session - gold coin donation.

10 Any disruption to performances from the auditorium carries a risk of penalty points or elimination.

11 Entered plays will be grouped into two sessions, morning and afternoon, comprised of 4 – 5 One Act Plays for each session, with a lunch break between sessions. These sessions will run as follows:
Morning 10:00 am to 12:30 pm; Afternoon 1:00pm to 2:30 pm
Awards Ceremony/Presentations 2:45 – 3 pm. (In the event of extra entries, the day will start earlier, at 9:30 am. Nearby schools will be given earlier timeslots.)

12 An Afternoon Tea for all performers and Staff will be provided after the last play, while Judges are deliberating. We encourage students to meet and mingle.

13 Schools should notify organisers if there are any limitations on session time slots for their troupes (eg requirement for early departure).

14 Where applicable, categories will be divided into boarding school entries and day school entries, and prizes awarded accordingly. Please note on the entry form if your entry involves boarding students.
