Did you know Australia doesn't have an officially named kelp forest? 🌱
That could all be about to change right here on our doorstep. The Freshwater Kelp Forest is soon to become one of the very first officially recognised underwater forests in the country, and you can get involved with naming it!
Join Operation Crayweed and Dr Claudia Santori in helping to protect and bring recognition to these vital underwater habitats that are home to all our favourite underwater locals and support countless marine species along our coastline.

What a week it's been. Winter diving has well and truly arrived, and with it has come some fantastic conditions underwater.
This morning's reports from Shelly Beach are calling over 8 metres of visibility, opening up to an impressive 15 metres past the point. The giant cuttlefish are continuing to put on a show, with the males out in force and displaying some incredible colours. Divers have also been treated to tasselled filefish, grey nurse sharks, eagle rays and, of course, local favourites Rosemary and Basil.
Once the sun goes down, things only get better. Recent Night Dives have delivered grey nurse sharks, bobtail Squid, blue-lined octopus, Sydney gloomy octopus, baby Port Jackson Sharks and reaper cuttlefish, making for some pretty special evenings underwater.
Looking for a way to finish off the workday? Join us for tonight's Night Dive. Swap the office for the ocean and jump in with Matt as he heads out with a group of divers to see what emerges from the darkness. You never know what might be waiting out there.

With Michael and his group wrapping up an epic trip to the Galápagos, this we can’t help but start thinking about the adventures still to come. We’ve got trips heading all over the world this year and next, with something for every type of diver.
🦈 Fiji
Get up close with some of the ocean’s most impressive predators. Whether you’re after an action-packed adventure or a relaxed tropical getaway, Fiji delivers both. When you're not exploring pristine reefs, you can chill by the pool, enjoy a sundowner with your dive buddies, go kayaking, or even hit the surf. They really do have it all.
🐠 Maldives
Experience luxury liveaboard life at its finest. Above the surface, think air-conditioned lounges, a whirlpool bath, and multiple sundecks. Then below the surface, some of the best tropical diving on the planet. Warm, crystal-clear, nutrient-rich waters attract reef sharks, manta rays, and even the occasional whale shark.
Prefer to stay a little closer to home?
🐋 Solitary Islands
One of Australia’s most unique dive destinations. Dive in subtropical waters where tropical species mix with cool-water favourites and, thanks to the timing of this trip, you'll also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of swimming with humpback whales.
🦀 South West Rocks
Home to the iconic Fish Rock Cave and some of the best grey nurse shark encounters in Australia. Add wobbegongs, giant stingrays, moray eels, cleaner shrimp, and the occasional hammerhead sighting, and it’s easy to see why this destination is on so many divers’ bucket lists.

If you've looked outside your window this morning, you might think it's a grey old day, but that's only half the story. Early reports from Shelly Beach are calling 10 meter visibility with plenty of marine life already making an appearance, so that's where we're heading.
The giant cuttlefish have been stealing the spotlight lately with some incredible displays, and if you've been lucky enough to dive with us recently, you'll know exactly what we mean. They're not the only stars of the show, though. Yesterday we also spotted another baby Port Jackson shark, octopus, multiple large wobbegongs, fiddler rays, scorpionfish, giant cuttlefish on the left hand side and two turtles!
Down at Shelly Beach today, Matt is completing day 2 of his PADI Open Water Course, while Daz is enjoying a private Double Guided Shore Dive. Back at the shop, El and Em are looking after all things retail before Em jumps in on her private Guided Night Dive, and over at the training centre, Cam and Tommy are busy keeping your gear in top shape.
With the long weekend just around the corner, there's no better time to squeeze a dive in. Whether it's your very first time dipping your toes in and giving SCUBA a go with our Try Dive, or you're a seasoned diver wanting to get in on all the action, you can see everything coming up on our dive calendar: https://divesydney.com.au/dive-calendar/

What a way to kick off winter. Today is a perfect example of why Sydney diving is incredible this time of year, it's very much a 'dive anywhere' day."! Shelly Beach had 8 - 12 metres of visibility yesterday, while Chowder Bay was reported at 6 metres this morning. With conditions like these, we'd be taking every opportunity to jump in.
The marine life certainly didn't disappoint yesterday either. Giant cuttlefish were putting on a show around Fairy Bower, both resident turtles were happily munching on seagrass, angel sharks were spotted out by the sponge gardens, and plenty of angelfish were cruising around the coral patches.
This morning we're back in the water with a full schedule. Matt is kicking off a new PADI Open Water Course, Jeeven is helping a diver regain their confidence with a Scuba Refresher, and Darren is showing off the local sights on a Double Guided Shore Dive. This afternoon, we're introducing a group of American students to the underwater world on one of our Guided Snorkel Tours, showing them what makes Australia the place to be.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we're excited to be joining forces with the Friends of Bongin Bongin Bay as part of World Ocean Day. We'll be taking part in the inaugural citizen science survey for the PADI AWARE Adopt the Blue program, helping gather valuable data while exploring a fantastic local dive site. The day will also include a Welcome to Country, a welcoming ceremony to the whales, and live music. Best of all, the dive is free to join, and we're offering 20% off gear rental for anyone taking part.
