Two future Speech Pathologists, one very special classroom.

Our Broome Early Learning Centre recently welcomed Master's students Yasunori and James for a placement supporting early language development, through our ongoing partnership with the Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health at the University of Notre Dame Australia.

Early childhood is such a critical window for communication and language skills and partnerships like this mean our children benefit from extra expertise, while our educators pick up new strategies along the way. It's a beautiful example of what's possible when education, health and early learning come together.

The ripple effect is real: a student who placed with us last year has since graduated and is planning to move to Broome to build her career. Proof that these placements aren't just good for our children, they're good for the whole community!

Proud to keep growing regional pathways for the next generation of allied health professionals.

Fresh harvests from the Westminster ELC garden!

The little gardeners managed to harvest wonderful batches of fresh beetroots, lettuce, celery, broccoli, and carrots.

Over the past few weeks, the children have taken such great care of the veggie patch. Every morning, they have been watering the plants, exploring the environment, and talking with the growing greens.

A table has been set up for everyone to enjoy the fresh home-grown harvests 🧺

Book Week at our Baldivis Early Learning Centre! ✨📚

Book Week isn't just about dress-ups and stories, it's a reminder of something powerful: literacy is a basic human right, and every child deserves the tools to find their voice.

At the Y, we believe language and literacy are the foundation for lifelong learning and empowerment. From storytime to our School ReadY program, we're committed to giving children the confidence to read, speak and be heard, from their very first years.

See our Baldivis crew celebrating the joy of books!

What a special day for our Ashdale ELC, welcoming Noongar artist Priscilla Rodd and her nephew to our service! ✨🎨

Together they transformed our Kindy outdoor pathway into a stunning "Deadly Hopscotch," bringing culture, colour and connection right to our little learners' feet.

Priscilla shared so generously with the children, teaching them to count 1-10 in Noongar language and explaining the meaning behind each Indigenous symbol woven into the design.

There is something so powerful about our children learning directly from an Elder and knowledge-holder in our community. These moments of connection, where culture is shared, not just taught, leave a lasting impression, and now our children will be reminded of them every single day as they hop, skip, and count their way across the mural!

A huge thank you to Priscilla for sharing her time, culture and creativity with us, and a very special thank you to a parent for so generously donating this beautiful artwork to our service.

Bunbury ELC celebrated NAIDOC Week, last week by connecting with the natural environment and exploring the colours and meaning of the Aboriginal flag. Children engaged in experiences that encouraged curiosity, respect, and an appreciation of Aboriginal culture and Country.

The centre was fortunate to welcome SWAMS, who shared music, storytelling, and face painting with the children, creating meaningful opportunities to celebrate and learn together. These experiences fostered a sense of belonging, cultural awareness, and community connection.

Throughout the week, the foyer pillars became a collaborative community artwork. Educators, children, and families gradually wrapped colourful yarn around the pillars, symbolising unity, connection, and a shared commitment to walking together in respect and reconciliation. Watching the artwork grow each day reflected the strength of the Bunbury ELC community and the importance of everyone contributing to a shared vision of inclusion and belonging.

What a magical day at East Cannington ELC for the school holidays! 🎩✨

The children were amazed by a fun-filled magic show packed with exciting tricks, laughter, and plenty of surprises. They watched in wonder, joined in with magician Ms Sarah, and loved being part of the show, sparking imagination, encouraging curiosity, and creating joyful memories with friends.

A huge thank you to magician Ms Sarah for bringing so much excitement to the school holiday program!

Experiences like these support EYLF Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, and align with NQS Quality Area 1: Educational Program and Practice.

Last week, Westminster ELC celebrated NAIDOC Week by immersing children in learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements. 💛❤️🖤

NAIDOC Week encourages inclusion and the celebration of diversity, a vital part of moving forward together. Children at the centre took part in a beautiful variety of hands-on, sustainable learning experiences, including:

- Singing Indigenous songs and sharing a daily Acknowledgment of Country using recycled materials.
- Creating Aboriginal flags, hand printing, and stamping using traditional paint colours.
- Crafting and decorating boomerangs using sustainable materials.
- Engaging in sensory play by tracing Aboriginal symbols and patterns using playdough, coloured pasta, and spaghetti.
- Exploring sensory trays with the youngest babies to encourage early connection.
- Discovering a special tuff tray filled with rice coloured in traditional
- Indigenous colours, where children went on a treasure hunt to find hidden Aboriginal symbols!

At Westminster ELC, the centre strives to foster an environment of understanding and respect. Through these activities, children were encouraged to build appreciation, connection, and awareness, helping them understand the importance of cultural diversity and inclusion from the earliest stages of life.
