When starting out my knowledge of Portuguese was limited to only a few basic words and phases that I had picked up here and there at work. I wanted to learn more to be able to talk, listen, read and understand my work colleagues and clients. I had a need to develop my Portuguese language skills for work related purposes but also to socialise as that is how a lot business in conducted in Portuguese society. I had tried a few general language phases books and phone apps but it all seemed quite confusing, there were so many different ways to say things in Portuguese depending on the situation and context and my bumbling translation and attempts to speak were often misunderstood by Portuguese speakers that I was keen to engage with. I researched a few teachers finding most offering various set online style classes but what I really wanted was something face to face and personalised to my level, my pace and my needs eventually (thankfully) I found Mr. Myself being from an English speaking background (as is Michael) I found Michael's approach using well structured learning blocks mixed into tailored lesson plans took me quickly through the basic elements of the language and especially where it came to comprehend these from an English speakers perspective, which apart from plain vocabulary building is the key to learning all the must know declining verbs, singular, plural tenses all in correct gender and society level delivery to start to understand and appreciate Portuguese. I am a few months into my weekly lessons with Michael and had no idea I would enjoy the language so much.
