School Sport WA - Champion Schools Tennis 🎾

On Friday 23 February, Frederick Irwin Anglican School was involved in the 2024 WA School Sport Tennis competition run by Tennis West

We participated in the Southwest Zone held at Bunbury Tennis Club. This year we took a record number of 8 teams; five Year 7-9 teams and three Year 7-12 teams. The students played incredibly well and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner.
Our teams played some fantastic tennis. All teams were involved in a round-robin tournament where the players played singles and doubles against other schools in a pennant-style match competition.

It was great to see how much the player's games improved throughout the day. The FIAS teams demonstrated great sportsmanship and gained lots of valuable gameplay experience. Our FIAS 1 team playing in the Year 7-12 competition only dropped one singles game all day, narrowly missing out on finals by one point.

Thank you to Mr Dayog who accompanied the teams. Well done to all our players for representing FIAS so well.

Players: Tomo Smyth, Jack Learmonth, Dane Moyes, Mitchell van Nus, Mackenna Flatman, Lucius Hysen , Anthony Cafini, Archie Dowding, Finn Watson, Rhyder Brinkley, Michael Bocos, Sam McGinn, Patrick Rekman, Morgan David, Joel Burtenshaw, Ryan Hall, Hamlin Whitfield, Leonie Archer, Lakyn Birmingham, Caleb de Boer, Lenny Fayers, Victor Game, Delon Le Chat, Denzel Le Chat, Rex Mason, Elizabeth Rekman, Jake Thornton, Ella Tuckey, Blake Wahlsten, Poppy Warburton, George Young and Logan Humphrey.

Blessing of the Backpacks 🙏

Meadow Springs (Wednesday 31 January) and Halls Head (Friday 2 February) along with Halls Head Kindy students (Wednesday 7 February) joined together at their separate campuses as School Chaplain, Canon James Tabor, led a Blessing of the Backpacks Service last week.

This annual service at the start of Term 1 each year, provides a chance to start the year with a reminder that "Jesus is with me", as the students receive a prayer for their daily school activities such as preparing for each day, eating a healthy breakfast to start the day, and making their way to school.

It was a lovely service for all students and staff involved. Thank you Canon Tabor!

A Message from Head of Secondary: Events Coming Up and Uniform Reminders ☀️

Well done completing the first week of school. It has been a very smooth start to the year and it has been pleasing to see all students working and engaging in lessons during the week especially given the heat.

We commissioned the School Prefects and Leaders at the assembly last week. School prefects play a crucial role in the educational environment as they serve as exemplary role models and provide valuable support to their fellow students. These young women and men are selected based on their leadership qualities, integrity, and dedication to the school community. By embodying these traits, school prefects inspire and guide their peers toward positive behaviour and academic excellence. They act as ambassadors of the school's values, promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and kindness. We wish them well as they undertake their new leadership roles.

The Year 12 Ball was held over the weekend at the Westin Hotel, this was a delightful event with students and staff enjoying themselves. I am sure the photos will be amazing.

Events Coming Up:

- The Year 12 and 11 Parent information evenings will be held on Tuesday 6 February and Wednesday 7 February respectively. The presentation nights will focus on essential information parents and students need to know about WACE, graduation, post-school options, and the support available to students to be successful.

- The Year 10 and 9 evenings are the following week, with the Year 8 and 7 in week four.

- The Inter-House Swimming Carnivals will be in week 3 at the MARC. Parents are encouraged to come and watch on the days that their children are competing. Please keep an eye out for the Consent2go alert for the carnival.

There are still some students who need to attend to their uniform standard while at school. Boys' hair should be out of the eyes and above the collar, there should not be a dramatic change in length between the front and the back of the hair. Hair should not be coloured an unnatural colour. Girls are not to wear more than one pair of sleepers or plain studs in the lobe of their ears. Please attend to correcting any aspects of the uniform as soon as possible.

I wish you all a continued smooth start to the term, keep putting kindness to others at the forefront of all you do.

Warm regards

Ms Jannine Webb
Head of Secondary
