At Nurture Through Nature, safeguarding isn't just a policy , it's part of our everyday practice. Every decision we make is centred around creating a safe, secure, and respectful environment where children can thrive.
We are committed to being a child safe organisation where children’s safety, wellbeing, identity, belonging, and rights are central to our philosophy, policies, and everyday practices. In alignment with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standard (NQS), we create environments where children are respected, valued, listened to, and supported to actively participate in decisions that affect them.
❤️We are a child safe organisation
We embed the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations throughout our policies, procedures, and practices, ensuring that child safety is reflected in our relationships, interactions, environments, and continuous improvement processes. The National Principles are displayed in our lobby as a visible commitment to children, families, and our community that we uphold children’s rights and prioritise their safety and wellbeing.
❤️United Nations rights of the child
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child guides our approach to supporting children as capable and active participants in their own learning and development. Through intentional teaching and meaningful conversations, children are supported to understand their rights, what those rights mean, and how they can be respected in their everyday experiences. Children’s voices and perspectives are actively sought, documented, and celebrated. Their understandings of their rights are displayed alongside the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in our lobby, demonstrating that children’s views matter and that we value their agency, voice, and contribution to our community.
❤️No agency educators
We do not use agency educators. When additional support is needed, our leadership team steps into the learning environments, or we utilise our permanent casual educators. This ensures children are always cared for by familiar, trusted educators who know them well, supporting strong relationships, consistency, and a sense of security.
❤️Secure environments.
Our learning environments remain secure, with controlled access to help ensure children's safety throughout the day. We conduct all family tours by appointment only, allowing us to collect the details of every visitor before they enter our service. This helps us know who is on site at all times and supports a safe and secure environment for our children, families, and educators.
❤️Respecting children's privacy.
Our children's toilets are fitted with doors to provide privacy and dignity during toileting. Educators remain within sight and hearing distance, in line with our supervision practices, ensuring children are safe while their privacy, personal space, and growing independence are respected.
❤️A thorough recruitment process.
We take our hiring process seriously. Every educator completes an extensive recruitment process, including multiple trial shifts, to ensure they are the right fit for our team and values. During this time, they do not participate in intimate care routines such as sleep, bottle feeding, nappy changes, or toileting.
❤️Building trust before intimate care.
New educators do not undertake nappy changing or toileting responsibilities until they have been part of our team for at least two months. Even then, these routines begin only once children have developed a trusting relationship and are comfortable requesting that educator's support.
❤️Monthly compliance observations.
Every month, our educators participate in toileting and intimate care compliance checks. Senior educators observe care routines to ensure our policies, procedures, and best practices are consistently followed.
❤️Annual training and professional development .
Keeping children safe requires ongoing learning. Every member of our team completes annual training in child protection, safe sleeping, safe supervision, mandatory reporting, Protective Behaviours, and the Foundations of Child Safety. This ensures our knowledge remains current, our practices reflect best practice, and we continue to provide the safest possible environment for every child in our care.
❤️Respectful care through the Emmi Pikler approach.
Our practice is guided by the Emmi Pikler philosophy, which promotes respectful interactions, strong relationships, body autonomy, and consent from the earliest years.
❤️Protective Behaviours every week.
Protective Behaviours education is deeply embedded within our curriculum and is intentionally taught at least three times each week. We empower children with the language, confidence, and skills to recognise their feelings, understand body safety, and seek help from trusted adults when needed.
Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, heard, and valued. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and we are proud to create an environment where children's safety always comes first. We are committed to advocating for every child, protecting their rights, and ensuring they feel secure, respected, and empowered every single day.
