Hi beautiful people!!! Itโ€™s been a while! I wanted to touch base with you all and say a great big HI! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Iโ€™ve missed you all! In a nutshell, my life was completely turned upside down in 2022 but I wonโ€™t go into that right now, however I will say that we need to cherish every single day as you never know what tomorrow brings! Here I am, finally a fully fledged happiness chaser, forever dancing in natures gifts and celebrating the future! My two beautiful (no so kids) almost 21 and 19 have completed their homeschooling (a few years ago now). Both went on to study a cert 3 and 4 in music, my daughter also completed a dip in music and my son followed my footsteps in education and is a special needs EA.. his passion is helping other children who struggled like he did, fitting into the system. This mama is in her 2nd year of a double degree in Psychology and counselling with ECU! Woooh go me ๐Ÿ˜€Iโ€™m a bit of a nerd as I love studying and constantly learning new things! I have two amazing step- children, both with complex disabilities.. Iโ€™ll intoduce tou to them later.. letโ€™s just say we are a very spicy divergent household ๐Ÿ’ฅ ๐Ÿฅฐ Anyhooโ€ฆ. How are you all doing? Are you still homeschoolingโ€ฆ Iโ€™d love to hear

Love this

ARE PEOPLE CONSTANTLY TELLING YOU THAT HOME ED, AND YOUR PARENTING STYLE WILL DISADVANTAGE YOUR KIDS, OR MEAN THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO THRIVE AT STUDY, OR LIFE?

If I had believed all of the rot people told me over the years, my kids would still be breast feeding and sleeping in my bed, have no friends, be unable to read, be 'behind', and be tied to my apron strings, unable to get a job, go to uni, or cope with the real world.

In fact, all three of the kids who never went to school (17,22,24) have good jobs, one has finished uni and the second is about to. They all have friends (including many HE kids), two have lived out of home and coped fine. They pay for themselves, take responsibility for their own lives, and all three of those 'poor children' not only cope in the real world, but are planning to go abroad for extended periods of time to work in different countries where they don't know anyone, and are not fluent in the language.

HE hasn't been perfect, and there are plenty of things I'd do differently. My kids still have some challenges, but don't we all?
However, none of the things the naysayers claimed have come to pass. So if you are at a crossroads, besieged by people constantly telling you you have made the wrong choice, or that your child must do XYZ to succeed/keep up/prepare them for life, please take heart from my experience (and that of every other family I know with adult children who were home educated).

YOU know your kids best, and you CAN support them to reach their goals. Follow the path that's right for you, right now. Do your best to trust your kids, and the process, and try not to stress about preparing your kids for things far in the future that may or may not ever happen. Focus on what they need right now, and adapt as necessary.
