On Friday evening, our talented student musicians took to the stage for MCC Plugged In, performing to an enthusiastic audience of family and friends.
A huge congratulations to our student bands 4Fours, Tokyo Lights, Space Jam, Dynamoes, Chaotix, and Bring It On, who showcased an incredible range of music spanning modern hits through to timeless classics. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for music were on full display, making for an unforgettable evening of live performance.
The night concluded with a special guest performance from local band The Strangers In Town, featuring MCC alumni Alex Dixon, Ayden Lukacs, and Jack Simmons. It was wonderful to welcome these former students back to share their musical talents and inspire the next generation of MCC performers.

Tips for securing an apprenticeship.
Students in Years 11 and 12 learned about apprenticeship opportunities at Alcoa with the company’s Apprenticeship Coordinator and three Alcoa apprentices, who were previous students of MCC! They talked to students who were interested in learning about the various opportunities on offer in Alcoa’s 2027 Apprenticeship Program and working at Alcoa. The students asked questions about the process, interviews and their prospects. The importance of a strong school report and attendance record was emphasised. These special presentations are important to give students the knowledge they need to choose and secure an apprenticeship. A special thanks to Alcoa for supporting our students!

AFLW Dockers Visit
The Year 2s were treated to a fun practical session last week by the AFLW Dockers players, who first told them how they were drafted into the team and what it takes to play for the Dockers. Then it was time to do some AFL drills and skills with the students, showing how well they can kick a footy. Year 5 and 6 students were also able to listen to the players, try to score a prize, and grab a signed poster!

Primary Cross Country
The primary cross country was held last week with the sun shining and the students ready to run. The lower years from Kindy to year 2 were first up, running around the oval with parents, teachers and students cheering them on. Students in years 3 to 6 went over the bridge and around the park. You could see the determination on the students' faces as they ran around, with some trying to break timed records set in previous years, and others not giving up and continuing to the finish line to earn valuable points for their house.
Well done MCC primary students who took part, you are all awesome. After all the points were counted, it was St Patrick’s who took out the house shield.

Year 3 Student Reconciliation
Year 3 Students attended their Reconciliation Retreat. In our Catholic faith, Reconciliation is part of returning and strengthening your relationship with God.
It creates a sense of connection and community for all students. The focus was on making the right choices and forgiveness, with students playing games and participating in group activities designed around this goal. The retreat prepares students for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was wonderful to see our students engage with the other members of their Catholic school community. Their behaviour was exemplary for the whole day! Congratulations to all.

Primary Girls Dockers Cup
A team of 20 year 6 girls represented MCC in the Peel primary AFL Dockers Cup. For most of the students in the team it was the first time that they have ever played AFL. And played they did, tackling and kicking the footy and enjoying every minute of it. The girls came away with two wins for the day and the smiles after these wins was priceless. So good to see our young students giving a new sport a try with their peers.
Congratulations girls!

The big read with Captain Luna Roo!
Students from Years 3 to Year 6 gathered in the Lecture Theatre to join in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). It’s a nationwide event celebrating reading, where schools, libraries, and institutions across Australia come together to read the same picture book simultaneously, promoting the joy and benefits of literacy. The book for this year was Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton.
It’s a high-energy story that had the students cheering on Luna, the underdog. She leaves nothing on the pitch as she learns to silence her doubts, believe in her skills, and trust her teammates. Pre-primary to Year 3 enjoyed the story separately in the Primary Drama room.
Students in the Lecture Theatre also heard what it’s like to be a valuable team player from Imogen in Year 7, who represents the state in AFL.

Host a Japanese Exchange Student!
The College, in partnership with AIIU (Australia Institute of International Understanding), are seeking families who are willing and able to host a Japanese exchange student between 30 July and 6 August 2026.
Hosting an exchange student is a fantastic opportunity to learn about a different culture and make life-long friends.
The student would need a bed and meals daily, would attend MCC each school day and be provided with a uniform.
For further information see the attachment and please email Group Coordinator Colleen via the email listed.

Building connections across the College!
Year 9 Semester 1 leaders visited the Primary School, where they worked alongside students in maths-based activities, shared stories and helped lead outdoor obstacle course challenges.
The Year 10 Children, Family and Community have been creating educational activities for a three-year-old’s birthday party. As part of their assessment, students carefully considered the stages of play and the importance of inclusivity for children with diverse sensory needs. After several lessons developing their activities, students had the opportunity to trial them with Kindy students before completing a written evaluation on their success.
The Secondary students showed leadership, care and creativity while building positive relationships with the younger students.
