What a way to end our final clean up of 2023! Today marked our 46th clean up in 5 years! We finished off with our AGM showcasing our 2023 efforts and achievements followed by an Ocean Plastics Art workshop 💙

A massive thank you to the 37 volunteers who attended today, all enthusiastically braving the weather which cleared just in time for the clean up! Total weight picked up was 103kgs - again mostly plastic food packaging, hard plastics and a dumped garage roller door! It really is unbelievable that some people think it’s ok to purposefully litter instead of disposing of it responsibly 🥲

Big thanks to PEEL Rotary Community Volunteers for supplying & cooking our sausage sizzle today and to our talented friend & art teacher Erin Thomson for facilitating our Ocean Plastics Art workshop. We had 15 participants who all did an amazing job of creating their inspiring artworks from ocean plastics collected from from along our Mandurah coastline.

Finally, thank you to our 2023 CWW Committee. It is through your passion & continued efforts that we are able to successfully run our clean ups and attend community engagement events 🫶

After a short break we will return for our first 2024 clean up in February so keep an eye on our website & socials events for details. We are a community group working together to keep our waterways clean for our environment & marine life. All are welcome to attend!

Individually we are one drop, together we are an ocean 🌊

Every piece of plastic ever made still exists on our planet in some form. It’s created, used then thrown away. Sadly 8 million pieces of plastic makes its way into our oceans EVERY DAY. It doesn’t break down, it continues to break up into smaller pieces of plastic that causes harm to our environment - to our marine life - to us.

This collection of ocean plastic has been picked up from along our Mandurah coastline and is representative of the plastics floating in our oceans and being found on beaches all around the world. Every little piece has a story. “Where did it come from, how many years has it been floating in our ocean, what was its original form?” When we pick it up in an effort to save it from causing further harm, we also become part of its story - to spread the awareness of ocean plastics.

These will be a source of inspiration for our upcoming Ocean Plastic Art Workshop this Sunday 12th November. We will join together with local art teacher Erin Thomson, a talented artist who has been making Marine Debris art from ocean plastics.

Limited spots are still available to join our free workshop via this link: https://www.trybooking.com/CMXEV

All participants are required to attend our beach clean up prior to the workshop. For event details see link here: https://facebook.com/events/s/doddis-beach-clean-up/

The sun was shining for our clean up today at the Coodanup Foreshore Reserve in celebration of the Annual Wonders of our Wetlands Festival. A big thank you to the amazing 65 volunteers who collected 62.5kgs of litter from along the shoreline of the Peel-Harvey Estuary!

This event is all about welcoming migratory shore birds back to the Peel-Yalgorup System, where they will stay for the summer to feed around our waterways before returning to the northern hemisphere to breed, flying a round trip of 25,000kms!

Inspired by David Rennie, an award-winning local photographer, this event has been running since 2014 to raise awareness about migratory shorebirds and the importance of looking after our environment for them. We were honoured to have David attend to open our ‘Pave the Way’ clean up with inspirational words for our community, thank you David 🫶

Thank you to Peel-Harvey Catchment Council for having us again, we thoroughly enjoy connecting with our local community to celebrate the ‘Wonders of our Wetlands’

Today this amazing team of Court Grammar School primary educators lead by Steve & Jenny Dowie came together at Pyramids Beach in Dawesville for an education session about Plastics in our Ocean and a beach clean up.

Collectively they picked up 77.8kgs of litter and marine debris and were shocked at the amount collected from what looked like a clean stretch of coastline. Thank you to everyone involved in todays clean up for making a difference removing these items from causing further harm to our environment & marine life!

Our mid-2023 Coastal Waste Warriors Clean Up results are in!

Last month we celebrated a special milestone, our 40th Community clean up event held at our birthplace Pyramids Beach, Dawesville Mandurah WA! Back when our family started our little beach clean up group in memory of our beautiful daughter Amber Dawn✨ little did we know the positive impact we would make together with our community to keep our waterways clean! 🌈🐬

In 4.5 years our community has removed 108,268 items - 4,292kgs (OVER 4 TONNES!) of litter and marine debris from our coastline and waterways that would otherwise cause harm to our marine, bird life & environment!

A BIG thank you goes out to our community of volunteers who have attended our clean ups giving back to our planet PLUS collecting the data that we input into Tangaroa Blue Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) database. Without the data collection we would not be able to measure this positive impact plus this data is available to support ongoing litter source reduction initiatives locally and around Australia.

Thank you to the local businesses & local government organisations who have and continue to support us in many ways, we truly appreciate your support!

We have a jam packed event calendar for the rest of 2023 so head over to our website www.coastalwastewarriors.com.au and mark the dates in your calendar 📆

We are an all ages community group and all are welcome! Do your bit for our environment whilst connecting with your local community 🫶

It’s Plastic Free July 2023! Start with a few small steps and build on them. One simple switch is to opt for a reusable drink bottle instead of single-use plastic water bottles.

Reusable water bottles reduce marine debris, protect our wildlife from the dangers of plastic water bottles and caps, remove rubbish on the beach and create a new normal.

Planning ahead and bringing a reusable water bottle when on the go, and filling it with tap or filtered water is a healthier, cost-effective way to stay hydrated and avoid single-use plastic water bottles.

This is just one way to get on board with Plastic Free July. For more ideas & information visit: https://www.plasticfreejuly.org

World Environment Day 2023 is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters and it needs everyone on board to make change! Consumer pressure is key but real action needs to come from businesses, investors, policy makers and all levels of governments.

Speaking out and pushing for change has sparked policy milestones like plastic bag bans, innovations in alternatives to single-use plastic packaging, mobilised finance for sustainability, and led to the push for a global agreement to end plastic pollution.

It is time to accelerate this action. Under , World Environment Day 2023 provides an opportunity to raise the volume on the call for governments, cities and businesses to invest in and transition to a circular economy.

2023 is the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. Over the past five decades, the day has grown to be one of the largest global platforms for environmental outreach.

Our Story

Hi there, here is a little bit about us. We are the Field family - Kirstin, Tim, Patrick, Daniel & Amber our Angel in heaven. We have been inspired by our daughter Amber Dawn to start our community group Coastal Waste Warriors in her memory to take positive action together to look after our environment, to spread the awareness about plastic pollution and educate with ways to reduce our own waste and plastics in our everyday lives.

Our beautiful Amber Dawn who was almost 5 years old grew her angel wings in August 2017; she fought for her life for 2 weeks in ICU after an infection took hold following her heart surgery. In her short time with us Amber built a village around her in our local community through family, friends, school and sporting clubs inspiring everyone with her love of life, the ocean & nature. Amber attended 4yr old Kindergarten at St Damien’s CPS in Dawesville, WA and shortly after she grew her angel wings three amazing women were inspired by Amber to write (Jenny Dowie), illustrate (Belinda Joynes) and publish (Maggie Dent) a children’s book her memory called ‘Amber Dawn Princess Warrior and the Dolphin Rescue,’ It is a beautiful children’s story about Amber saving a dolphin from fishing nets. Amber’s legacy to inspire others to look after our environment continues to shine through our community connecting as one to take positive action together for our marine life.

Small ripples become big waves and every little effort makes a difference 🌏
