Growth sometimes means change , and change always comes with purpose.

Last September 2025, Courageous Solutions officially closed its school-aged tutoring services as we stepped back to realign our mission.

Today, we’re moving forward with clarity. Courageous Solutions is now focused on tutoring and mentoring for adult learners, supporting confidence, learning, and personal growth.

After much thought and prayer, we want to let you know that our tutoring services will be temporarily closed.

This decision was not easy, as every student and family we’ve walked with has been such a special part of our journey. Courageous Solutions has always been more than tutoring, it has been about HOPE for those experiencing fear, frustration, or failure, about encouragement, and about helping students and parents see that learning can be meaningful and possible.

We are deeply grateful for every family who has entrusted us with their children’s learning, for every tutor who has given their heart to teaching, and for the community that has supported us along the way.

At this time, we don’t know what the future holds, but we hold onto the values that started Courageous Solutions: faith, integrity, and the desire to bring hope.

Imagine being a strong, young boy and having a tyrannical noble randomly select you to hang three peasants, simply to demonstrate his power. Refusal is impossible—there is no official ex*****oner—and with a single gesture, your fate is sealed forever. This was the reality for Heinrich, the father of Franz Schmidt, in the early 16th Century. A humble craftsman, Heinrich became marked as a hangman, and with that title came a stigma as severe as death itself. He and his descendants were excluded from other trades, shunned in public, and avoided in church, a shadow that Franz would inherit from birth.

Franz grew up following his father from ex*****on to ex*****on, learning the grim art of killing, mutilating, and enforcing sentences—a bond forged through ropes and swords. When Heinrich passed, Franz took over the role officially. Stronger, more precise, and formidable, he became the most respected and feared ex*****oner in Nuremberg. He married the daughter of the head of ex*****oners, had seven children, and, despite his dark profession, gained a measure of acceptance in the community. Yet Franz harbored another passion: medicine. In his spare time, he studied the human body, seeking not only to punish but to understand and eventually heal it.

Throughout his career, Franz kept meticulous diaries detailing every ex*****on and amputation, recording roughly 300 deaths and countless dismemberments. These journals remain some of the most precise accounts of late-medieval justice. Remarkably, at sixty, he retired from the guillotine and devoted himself entirely to medicine, ultimately saving an estimated 10,000 lives over two decades. Franz Schmidt’s life is a story of transformation—from a man born into bloodshed to one who sought redemption through knowledge and compassion—a powerful reminder that even the darkest paths can one day lead to the light.
