🎶 Friday Favourites - Term 2, Week 7 🎶
For a short teaching week there was still a lot in it! Today I feature a resource from One Big voice as I began to introduce the use of choreography in my mainstream classes. This resource has so many positive elements to it!
• “Say What You Mean,” A song about integrity.
Highlight, new word and lots of fun sass. 😊
Music provides opportunities to discuss and develop healthy personal characteristics to build a better world. This song enables these experiences to be a present in the music classes.
Thank One Big Voice Festival 🎶😁

These are the music teachers from across WA who are preparing young people’s choirs to perform in the One Big Voice concert. These are our voices, giving a glimpse of the finds which thousands of children will come together to sing at the RAC arena in August. I have a group of 8 wonderful homeschoolers who are preparing to perform, they are doing fantastic and have been welcomed supportively in to this event.

For anyone following along at home, The Mandurah Concert Band placed 3rd in B Grade State Championships yesterday. It was my debut as a percussionist and was a positive experience all round. Thanks for your encouragement and support. 🎶
Here are some snippets from today’s performance. This was my first time performing as a percussionist - that was fun!

My son and I are part of the percussion section to represent Mandurah today. We are just headed to the warm up room and will be on stage at 11.35am. Yay!
Final words from our conductor, “Relax and have fun” Brilliant!
🎶 Friday Favourites - Term 2, Week 6 🎶
Another week of music teaching has me reflecting on the new skills children are discovering in these classes. Helping children move from hesitation to confidence takes time, and when it finally clicks it’s worth celebrating!
1. La Raspa dance with the grade 1s.
2. Aural skills and recorder detective with Music Makers.
Special shout out of thanks for my beautiful flowers. 🌻🪻🌸
Just a reminder that this is only the tip of celebrations each week. Some other great moments this week included:
• A student completing a piano level book.
• A student starting to read bass clef.
• Choir succeeding with new choreography.
• Students singing a song without shouting.
• Students performing rhyme and solo songs.
• Students discovering dynamics.
• Students showing kindness in their activities.
…the list could go on - seriously, this is such a wonderful job. 😊
🎶 Friday Favourites - Term 2, Week 5 🎶
Music sessions are not only focussed on learning music, I want to create moments of guided experience to help people discover the power music has in human connection. Today’s favourite moments highlight two emotional connections which brought joy to my teacher heart this week.
1. ‘Breathe’ song with the Music minis. (See comment below for a link to this song)
2. ‘Move It’ activity with grade 3/4 students. See many giggles.
I hope you find music to brighten your days this week too. 🎶😊

As a Music Specialist Teacher I am honoured to see children for all of their years in primary school. Today I had classes with students I have been teaching for four years. They know me, I know them. We sing, play and make music together and have fun along the way.
This list gives the main activities I did today, what it doesn’t include is the spontaneous giggles and conversations that happen along the way. It doesn’t list the medical needs, conflict resolution, ‘lunch time helpers’, smiles of achievement, EA support and many other little things that go into a day.
So grateful to bring musical experiences to these classes.
