Training your respiratory system is possibly the most over looked aspect in all of sports and activities and yet it is without a doubt the most important.
You can go weeks without food, days without water but only minutes without breath. In all sports it won't matter how fit, strong or mentally tough you are, when you gas out you are done. Therefore it should be obvious to us how important it is to train our breathing system.
Just like the rest of the body we can train ourselves using breathing techniques and exercises to strengthen the breathing muscles and increase the efficiency of oxygen delivery to the body and brain resulting in much improved health and performance in your given activity.

Back in the 1970s, renowned Ear, Nose and Throat Dr Maurice Cottle stated that the nose performs 30 functions in the human body.
Just some of these vital functions are listed in the post, and most if not all of these are missed when breathing through the mouth.
Due to many reasons in modern day life such as high stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, health conditions and many more a large percentage of the population have become mouth breathers.
If you are breathing through the mouth during the day, during moderate exercise and during sleep you are missing out on a multitude of benefits and are actually in a lot of cases damaging your health.
The good news is that as with most things with the body we are able to retrain ourselves to get back to nasal breathing and regain all the benefits that come with it.
So now you know this try to become aware of your breathing through the day, ask your partner or record yourself at sleep to find out how you breathe at night and see how much you breathe through your mouth and there will almost always be room for improvement.
If you want to learn how to improve your breathing for your health and performance then book in for a discovery session at Breathe4JiuJitsu

Many people in the world today have dysfuntional breathing due to the stresses of modern society, one of those dysfunctions can be the bio mechanics of breathing.
Good mechanics should be a slow, soft, calm and LOW breath utilising the full motion of the diaphragm, however so many people now have adopted upper chest breathing that can cause more stress and lead to dis-ease.
Using simple scientifically proven exercises and techniques in a routine we can retrain the mechanics of our breathing so the body can return to the natural efficient breathing it was always meant to and therefore increase our overall health and performance.

Now that the best of the best are starting to realise and use the power of breathing techniques to take their performance to the next level hopefully people will finally take notice.
With the right training anyone can learn how to use their most natural function of breathing to obtain efficient oxygen delivery to the body and brain to increase performance in their given sport and even more importantly to improve their overall health.

EFFICIENT BREATHING:
As with the brain it is also essential to have optimum oxygen delivery to the body, without it lactic acid will build up in the muscles and its not long until you loose strength, speed and explosiveness.
With the correct breath training you can make your breathing muscles stronger resulting in more stamina and keep efficient oxygen delivery to the muscles delaying the build up of lactic acid.
