Social impact programs play a vital role in shaping academic and leadership experiences that produce well-rounded, career-ready graduates — graduates who are industry-engaged, community-connected, and deeply attuned to people and their needs.

On Sunday, 17 May 2026, the Swinburne community stood proudly alongside Reach 4 Your Future Foundation and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation at our annual Cancer Care and Research High Tea held at The Hotel Windsor Melbourne.

What made this event truly special was not only the fundraising outcome, but the genuine human connection shared throughout the afternoon — stories of courage, resilience, compassion, caregiving, survivorship, and hope.

Together, our community raised an incredible $11,000.00 to support palliative care initiatives for cancer patients, carers, and families navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.

A remarkable $4,000.00 contribution came directly from the Swinburne community, demonstrating the power of collective compassion and social impact in action.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous supporting partners: Fiji Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Crowne Plaza Resort & Spa Fiji, J.W. Marriott Gold Coast, Aloft Perth, Alba Thermal Springs Mornington Peninsula, and The Hotel Windsor Melbourne, whose support helped strengthen the event's spirit and success.

Most importantly, thank you to every guest, supporter, student, staff member, sponsor, and community advocate who attended, contributed, shared conversations, and stood beside us in support of people walking the cancer journey.

For those who could not attend this year, we warmly invite you to join us next year as we continue building a compassionate community dedicated to care, research, education, and hope.

This is more than a fundraiser. It is a growing community of people committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

On Saturday mornings at Usha’s memorial bench, I often meet compassionate people who stop to listen, connect, and share in Usha’s story.

Four weeks ago, I met Mike Hardman, a hospital maintenance technician whose quiet yet meaningful role has led to powerful encounters with patients, carers, and families—particularly in palliative care.

Over recent weeks, Mike has shared heartfelt reflections on the human side of his work and the profound conversations that can unfold in hospital corridors. His story is a powerful reminder that compassionate care extends far beyond clinical roles.

Mike will be joining us as a speaker at the Cancer Care & Research High Tea on 17 May 2026 at The Hotel Windsor, sharing his inspiring experiences supporting patients and families through life’s most vulnerable moments.

These are the unique stories that make hospital journeys so deeply human.

In the true spirit of giving, meaningful change often begins with simple acts of generosity.

Vee, owner of Atrium Café at Swinburne University of Technology, has committed to donating 50 cents from every coffee sold towards the Cancer Care and Research High Tea Fundraiser. What may seem like a small gesture quickly becomes powerful—each cup of coffee helps strengthen cancer care and support patients, families, and carers.

Driven by a strong sense of community, Vee has also pledged $3,000 through this initiative, reflecting his commitment to making a tangible difference. His contribution is a reminder that everyday choices can create lasting impact.
We had the opportunity to speak with Vee about why this cause matters to him and how he hopes the university community will come together to support it.

☕ Every coffee counts. Every contribution matters.
