Our Year 9 Food Technology students have been putting their creativity and practical skills to the test in the "New Canteen Item" assessment.

Working through the design process, students investigated current food trends, considered nutrition, cost and customer appeal and then developed their own unique menu item for the school canteen. The final challenge? Bringing their ideas to life in the kitchen.

This assessment is about much more than cooking. It develops problem-solving, planning, teamwork, time management and the ability to respond to feedback, skills that are valuable well beyond the Food Technology classroom.

The quality, innovation and effort on display have been outstanding, with students producing a range of delicious and creative dishes that would not look out of place on a café menu. Congratulations to all of our Year 9 Food Technology students for their hard work, enthusiasm and willingness to challenge themselves throughout the process.

As part of the VCE Physical Education Unit 3 curriculum, Year 12 students complete two laboratory‑style fitness assessments, the Wingate Anaerobic Test and the VO₂ Max Test, to generate primary data for analysis. These tests provide authentic insights into the relative contribution of the three energy systems and the acute physiological responses that occur during maximal exercise.

A special acknowledgement goes to Ben E and Daniel S who both achieved elite‑level results on these tests.

Our new mural is complete, offering a powerful visual reminder of connection to Country, community and reconciliation. Created by artist Simone Thomson , this powerful artwork pays deep respects to the lands and waterways of the Wurundjeri Tribe of the Eastern Kulin Nation, acknowledging the Traditional Country on which De La Salle College sits.

Through flowing waterways, journey tracks, Gathering Circles, mountains and significant cultural symbols, the mural reflects connection to Country, community, belonging and our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

The artwork features Birrarung, the majestic “river of mist and shadows” known as the Yarra River, and Kooyongkoot Creek, meaning “haunt of the waterfowl” in the Woi-Wurrung language, also known as Gardiners Creek.

A meaningful addition to our College grounds, the mural invites our community to pause, learn and reflect as we continue to walk together in respect, recognition and reconciliation.

We extend our sincere thanks to Simone for bringing this meaningful artwork to life with such care, creativity and cultural depth.

Lasallian Cup Returns – A Celebration of Tradition & Brotherhood

For the first time since 2019, the Lasallian Cup between St Bede’s College and De La Salle College returned to the ACC Division 1 football stage and it did not disappoint.

Played in a high-pressure, finals-like atmosphere, both sides brought intensity, skill, and pride in their Lasallian heritage. The contest was tightly fought through the first three quarters, with neither team giving an inch. It was only in the final term that St Bede’s were able to break away, finishing strongly to secure the win in what was a fiercely competitive and spirited clash.

More than just a game, the day was a powerful reminder of the deep connection between two Lasallian schools. Former De La Salle student and long-serving St Bede’s teacher Brian Burke (43 years) addressed players post-match, sharing insights into the rich history and shared values that unite both colleges; a connection built on faith, community, and mutual respect.

In a great show of sportsmanship, both teams came together after the final siren to share food, reflect, and celebrate the enduring Lasallian bond reinforcing that while rivalry exists on the field, brotherhood remains at the heart of the occasion.

Do you know why we celebrate Founder's Day today?

Our College Vice Captain, Josh Nolan, put our students and staff to the test with a quick quiz about St John Baptist De La Salle - the man behind our name and the Founder of the Lasallian Tradition.

From France in 1651 to schools all around the world today, his vision for quality education continues to shape who we are at De La Salle College.
