Family FEASTival - is an educational course for families, which offers support and information to enable children and parents to enhance their family tie, through gardening and food preparation. Family meals are a time of sharing, and family FEASTival encourages healthy and nourishing food, prepared together, with vegetables that have been home grown in the family kitchen gardens. ( A kitchen gar
den is a term used which describes the vegetable and fruit growing areas, in a families back yard, often connected to the kitchen.) Family FEASTival offers parent’s training, to include home grown food into their families daily meals, - morning fresh juices, green smoothies, salads, dressings and dips, - to create colourful delicious and inviting platters that are simple to prepare.
“Children’s FEASTival” - is the educational component available for children. A ten week after school course for Primary aged children, to experience all aspects of designing, creating and tending a kitchen garden. Presented both via interenet and through face-to-face learning. As food grows, the children are then encouraged to care for their plants, and harvest their crops. either chosing to prepare food at home, with delicious recepies, or to learn marketing skills to share their food into the growers market. Other aspects of the program include Make Over Gardens, installed in each families home, a display community children’s garden, with garden beds available for children to use for the duration of the course, recipes , market days to earn pocket money, a web site where children can chat about their ideas, art event workshops, african dance, and children’s DVD sales.
