PANschool offers workshops & classes for students interested in learning to play steelpans, either as an individual student or in an ensemble (steelband).
Panschool has been offering steelpan/steelband workshops and classes since early 2006 after commissioning Lennox Jordan, a Trinidadian steelpan maker, to make us a full range of instruments. Our first engagement was at Sanderson SHS in Darwin, where we did a 3 week residency aimed at re-engaging students with a high record of truancy. Our programme of daily workshops proved very popular and more t
han achieved its goal. Since that time, PANschool has been running one-off workshops for corporate clients, primary and secondary schools and at various festivals throughout SE Qld. as well as some incursions into Townsville, Cairns and even Melbourne and Canberra. As well as the one-off workshops, we have run regular, on-going classes within our local region - the Sunshine Coast. We ran an after-school program at St. Andrews Anglican College, Peregian Springs, for 18 months, from May 2012. After less than a year of playing, the St. Andrews students were good enough to participate at the first Australian Steelband Festival.(https://www.facebook.com/ and they also performed at the 2nd Australian Steelband Festival - PANZfest (https://www.facebook.com/panzfest2015) in Oct 2015. PANschool is currently based in the green hills of Maleny, and continues to offer individual instruction and steelband classes. So, if you’re interested in learning to play a steelpan or join one of steelband classes, please
message Matthew, or call 0421 812 407 to find out more.
