Book of the Year Awards
The CBCA presents annual awards to Australian books of literary merit for outstanding contribution to Australian children’s literature.
The CBCA was founded in 1945, in a time when Australian children’s books were few and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown. The Book of the Year Awards was established in 1946. The Awards aim to:
promote quality literature for young Australians by Australians
support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of books for young people aged 0 to 18
celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature.
These awards are now the most influential and highly respected literary award for children in Australia. The Awards affirm the quality of some of Australia’s most creative people and provide a boost to their capacity to devote time to their craft.
Celebrate 80 years of the Book of the Year Awards with us in 2026.

Reflections on the Joy of Learning and Community
🌿✨ As we come to the end of another wonderful term, we are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the richness of school life and the many moments of learning, growth, and connection we have shared together.
This term has been filled with curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and joy. Across our classrooms and beyond, our children have embraced new challenges, asked thoughtful questions, developed new skills, and deepened their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
The arts continue to be such an invaluable part of our teaching and learning, offering children meaningful opportunities to express ideas, emotions, and understanding in deeply creative ways. Through drawing, painting, creating, performing, and making, we see imagination flourish and confidence grow.
Equally important is our natural environment, which remains at the heart of our teaching practice. The outdoors offers endless invitations for exploration, wonder, movement, and discovery. Whether learning beneath the trees, by the creek, or simply noticing the seasonal changes around us, nature continues to be one of our greatest teachers.
School life is so much more than lessons alone, it is found in friendships formed, laughter shared, challenges overcome, and the strong sense of community that supports each child’s journey.
To our wonderful children, families, and staff, thank you for the care, trust, and warmth you bring to our school each day. Together, we continue to create a vibrant and nurturing learning community.
Wishing everyone a restful and joyful break. We look forward to all that next term will bring. 🌈💛

🌿💚 Beautiful Buddies, Beautiful Connections 💚🌿
Skye Current and Sunny Banks reporting on our school’s ‘Buddy’ program.
“Our time with the Puggles so far has been fun, beautiful, and truly special. When we come together, we build meaningful connections through drawing, storytelling, and play, sharing laughter, creativity, and precious moments along the way. Together, we are also learning how to care for our world, spending time gardening and nurturing our environment side by side”.
Peer mentoring is such a valuable part of these shared experiences. It fosters confidence, empathy, responsibility, and leadership in our older students, while helping our younger children feel safe, supported, and deeply connected within our school community.
It has been a wonderful experience watching our older students step into mentorship roles with such kindness, patience, and care, guiding and supporting our younger children with open hearts.
These moments remind us of the power of connection, community, and learning from one another. 🌱✨

🌈🐾 Bear’s Colourful Makeover! 🐾🌈
Our school’s mascot, Bear, has been turning heads this week after a fabulous makeover!
Nana Bear’s beloved puppy, Bear, has been proudly showing off his brand-new rainbow coat, bringing smiles and plenty of joy to our school community. From curious glances to excited pats and cuddles, Bear has certainly been soaking up all the love and attention.
His colourful new look has added an extra touch of brightness to our days and reminded us all of the joy, connection, and happiness that animals bring into our lives.
We think Bear is looking pretty paw-some! 💛🐶

🎶 Calling all music tutors in the Maleny area! 🎶
We’re reaching out to our wonderful community to see if there are any music instrument tutors nearby who may be interested in working with our students.
We have the exciting opportunity to receive a number of gifted musical instruments so we would love local, passionate tutors who are available to help bring these instruments to life through learning and music-making.
If you teach music (or know someone who does) and would be interested in chatting, please get in touch or tag them below.

🌙✨ Celebrating the Return of the Light 🏮🕯️
Last night, our school community gathered to celebrate the magic of the Winter Solstice, a beautiful tradition with ancient heritage, honouring the return of the light and the rebirth of a new cycle. ❄️🌞
As the longest night gives way to the gradual return of the sun, we are reminded of hope, renewal, and the quiet promise of brighter days ahead. 🌅✨
The children’s lantern parade, as always, was truly spectacular. Their handmade lanterns glowed beautifully in the darkness, lighting the way with warmth and wonder. Some creations were so colossal they resembled the majestic pyramids of Giza 🏜️🔺, showcasing the children’s creativity, craftsmanship, and care.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this special evening so meaningful. May we all carry a little of that light forward into the season ahead. 🕯️💛✨

What a wonderful Market Day we had today! 🌟
Our children had a fabulous time bringing along their old treasures and giving them new life in the hands of someone else. From carefully setting up stalls to negotiating prices, spruiking their wares, and making sales, there was excitement and joy everywhere you looked.
The playground buzzed with laughter, conversation, and the thrill of trading. It was wonderful to see such confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm on display.
Entrepreneurs in the making! 💛 Thank you to all our families for supporting this special day and helping make it such a success.

🌟 End of Term Market Day is Tomorrow! 🌟
A friendly reminder to all children and families that our End of Term Market Day is here tomorrow!
Now is the perfect time to gather treasures, toys, books, games, or goodies from home that you no longer need or use, items that could bring joy to someone else in our community. ♻️✨ Please send them along so they can find a new home.
Children are encouraged to bring $10 on the day to spend on their favourite finds.
It will be all hands on deck tomorrow as we sell our goods and shackles, working together to create a bustling marketplace full of excitement and fun!
Market Day is a wonderful opportunity for collaboration and hands-on learning as we put our business and maths brains to work, practising counting money, budgeting, buying, selling, and making thoughtful choices.
We can’t wait for a fantastic day of trading, sharing, and community spirit! 💛
