🤕 🤕 🤕 A head injury is any knock, bump or blow to the head, big or small. Most are mild, and you can care for your child at home. ❤️‍🩹

Moderate or severe head injuries are less common in children but can be serious.
Symptoms often show straight away, but can take a few hours to develop. If you’re worried, see a doctor or health professional.

🚨Call an Ambulance (000) immediately if you’re child-
〰️ injured their head at high speed or from a high fall
〰️ loses consciousness (passes out)
〰️ keeps vomiting and cannot stop
〰️ has severe concussion symptoms that do not get better after a few hours.

Always err on the side of caution with head injuries. We discuss this in all our first aid courses too. 🤕

Ambulances can take longer to arrive, distances to tertiary hospitals are greater, and access to evidence-based health education is often limited. Cost and location are the two biggest barriers preventing rural parents from accessing quality first aid education, we have partnered with Rabobank Australia to close that gap.

Hamilton Island travel tips + family holiday with kids 🌴☀️

I’m a MASSIVE holiday researcher 😂 I like to be prepared, know what I’m doing and make sure I’m not missing anything. Anyone else?!

We had such a great Hamilton Island family holiday, so I’ve pulled together the Hamilton Island tips and tricks I found genuinely helpful, because I LOVE reading other families’ travel tips before we go!

I only had 20 slides 🤣 so couldn’t include it all but hopefully there’s something useful if you’re planning Hamilton Island with kids, a toddler or a baby.

And as a paediatric emergency nurse, I couldn’t help but notice the AEDs, there were SO many around the island and I was seriously impressed. 👏🏼

A little deviation from our usual first aid content, but hopefully helpful! 💛

Also the Hamilton island visitor FB group was good for searching through when booking and planning.

🚨 Did you know this important button battery guideline was updated here in Australia recently? 👏

If you think your child has swallowed a button battery, even if you’re not sure, ALWAYS treat it as an emergency.

📞 Call 000 or drive to an emergency department immediately whilst following the steps I explain in the video. 🚑

When a button battery is swallowed, contact with saliva creates an electrical circuit that triggers a chemical reaction where the battery is stuck. In as little as two hours, this can cause serious damage to the oesophagus and airway, and can be life-threatening. ⚠️

As a paediatric emergency nurse, we don’t mind you coming in for peace of mind for an x-ray. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. 👩‍⚕️
