Professional Development and collegial support for Teacher Librarians in the Maitland Area.

We come from Independent, Catholic and NSW Department of Education schools. We are Teacher-Librarians, Library assistants and others interested in school libraries. We usually meet in Week 4 or 5 each term at different schools and our main focus is
Professional Development and collegial support.

Any local TL’s here are two events you won’t want to miss.
As part of LitUp, Katrina Nannestad will be in Maitland.
She will be hosting a session at Maitland Town Hall for students and then an event for TL’s, teachers and parents at East Maitland Library .

Library Lover’s Day.

I have a love letter hunt happening, where I have some little pictures of love letters hidden around the library, which students need to find.

I’ve also asked students and teacher to write some love letters to the library.
My first few love letters are in from staff and oh my, 💌 the love is real.

What are you planning to celebrate this day?

Library Lover’s Day

It’s the first thing to celebrate in the new year, and what a great thing to celebrate.

In my library this year I’m celebrating by writing love letters to the library 💌.

I have designed a template and will have staff and students write a letter to the library saying what they love and why they love it.

I have also hidden 14 small love letters around the library and will ask students to find them, writing down the location for a chance to win a prize.

How are you celebrating Library Lover’s Day in your library?

Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying the holidays.

While there has been a disturbance in the ether of things, we need to promote the good.

I have had two authors reach out for possible visits in the local area.

Kate Foster will be around beginning of March which is Week 6 of term 1

Liz Anelli will be travelling over from UK to promote her new book in July / August.

Both are fantastic presenters and amazing in their respective fields, so if you are interested please reach out and I’ll put you in touch.

What a wonderful afternoon at the State Library of NSW, surrounded by Literary Legends! A few MASLA members were able to attend and enjoyed listening to various talented people speak about their art, inspiration, career and passion. What was really clear was the mutual appreciation between composer and Teacher Librarian - neither could flourish without the other!
How many of the line-up can you name?!

After reading Don't Worry Felix, we made worry monsters to share our worries with! The large group photo was the 'base model' made by Kindy, the individual efforts are what Y6 created when given more freedom (and time!).

Today Shadow Judging students from Telarah PS, Branxton PS, Metford PS and Raymond Terrace watched the announcement of the Shadow Judging Book of the Year and Book of the Year Awards at East Maitland Library.
We had all selected a range of books though Branxton and Metford selected the ones that over 300 groups from across Australia selected.

As a special treat we had local illustrator Jade Goodwin come along and do some drawings with us.

Thank you to Rebecca from East Maitland Library for hosting this event and to the students and teacher who came along.
Thanks also to CBCA Hunter president Kerry Gittins for helping support this initiative .

Hopefully next year we can add a few more groups to list.

A whole school collaborative art work created in response to CBCA Shortlisted picture book Afloat. Inspired by an activityin Zart Book Week Publication.
Each student wrote their name on and drew some designs on piece of material with paint pens. The material was tied onto an unattractive wire mesh in one of our walk ways.
The effect is rather stunning and creates a lovely sense of movement in the wind.
