We are looking forward to celebrating our annual Carnival Day tomorrow! A massive thank you to all of our senior students and student leaders who have organised the event. We can’t wait to share the photos!
A friendly reminder to all students that closed footwear must be worn for the CASUAL DRESS DAY.

Well done Jaxon, what an amazing opportunity.

Great to catch up with Maffra Secondary College student Jaxon Marshall in Federal Parliament.

Jaxon was selected to represent Gippsland at the 2026 National Youth Parliament and he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

As part of the visit, Jaxon was able to make a speech about a subject he is passionate about, the future of agriculture in Australia.

Jaxon told the Youth Parliament: “When farmers are hurt it's not just the communities in Gippsland or regional Australia that are. It is every town and city and suburb of Australia.
“This is why I advocate for regenerative farming, creating a healthier, more biodiverse and more resilient environment that can continue producing food for future generations. But farmers cannot do this alone. I call for more than providing grants.
“We need to fund research, share knowledge and give farmers the tools they need so they can do what they love and pass it on to future generations. Because investing in agriculture isn't just investing in farmers, it's investing in our communities and Australia's future.”

I’m certain this is a young man with an exciting future and I look forward to watching his career progress.

PS: No, I’m not standing in a hole, Jaxon is about six-foot-five!

MSC year 8 student Matilda Wallace and a small group of year 7 & 8 students are participating in a Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria outreach program called Raising Rarity. Matilda had participated in this program in her primary school for two years before initiating the program here at MSC in February this year.

“[Raising Rarity] helped me realise this is what I want to do forever.” 🥹

This National Science Week, meet Matilda Wallace. A 14-year-old whose passion for botanicals has flourished as she takes her education beyond the classroom and into orchid translocation projects returning rare and threatened species to the wild!

The catalyst? Raising Rarity. An RBGV school program connecting students with the conservation of rare and threatened Victorian plant species.

If Matilda's enthusiasm is anything to go by, the future of plant conservation is in very capable hands 🌏

Congratulations to Maffra Secondary College student Jaxon Marshall, who has been selected to represent Gippsland at the 2026 National Youth Parliament.

I enjoyed catching up with Jaxon ahead of his visit to Parliament House in Canberra, where he will join young people from across Australia for the national civic education program.

As a Year 11 student from a farming family, Jaxon is passionate about agriculture and plans to take his ideas about how Australia can better support our farmers to the national stage.

That regional perspective matters.

Agriculture is central to Gippsland’s economy and identity, and it is encouraging to see young people like Jaxon taking an active interest in the future of the industry and speaking up on behalf of their communities.

During the program, Jaxon will participate in simulated parliamentary debates, leadership activities and national discussions while gaining a practical insight into how our democracy works.

It is also a terrific opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills and meet other young leaders from across the country.

Young Gippslanders have plenty to contribute, and their voices deserve to be heard in Canberra.

Congratulations, Jaxon, and all the best at National Youth Parliament!

The Year 12 OES class has spent the past two days in Wilson’s Prom. The class was observing the health of the natural environment and how it is managed by Parks Victoria. They completed a range of hikes in the area and enjoyed a visit to Port Albert to see a local Ramsar site.

The year 7/8 team have started a school MTB team. Over a few sessions the group has helped check and complete repairs on the school bikes. They will then undertake skills sessions, complete some learning on how tracks are built in the local area by the Gippsland MTB club. We will also be visiting local MTB tracks to do some riding before hopefully entering a school MTB race.

Congratulations to our amazing students on finishing 2nd overall at this week's Gippsland Science and Engineering Challenge!

Hosted by the University of New South Wales, the challenge brought together teams from seven Gippsland schools to tackle a series of engineering challenges that tested their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

A special highlight of the day was taking out 1st place in both the Bridge Building Challenge and the Ecohabitech Challenge – an outstanding achievement!

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Maffra Secondary College with enthusiasm, resilience and excellent teamwork.
