Celebrating 1 Year with AMIGA!

Today we are celebrating Jashanpreet, affectionately known as Jazz, who has officially reached her 1-year anniversary with AMIGA Montessori!

Over the past year, Jazz has become a valued member of our educator team, supporting our children with care and contributing to our wonderful Maddingley community.

Congratulations on your first AMIGA milestone, Jazz!
Thank you for everything you have brought to our children, families and team over the past year.

🩷 We’re Sharing the Dignity! 🩷

This August, our centre is proud to support Share the Dignity’s Dignity Drive, helping provide essential period products to women, girls and people who menstruate who may be experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or financial hardship.

Throughout August, we invite our families and community to help us make a difference by donating new, unopened period products, including:

🩷 Pads
🩷 Tampons
🩷 Period underwear
🩷 Menstrual cups
🩷 Reusable pads
🩷 Maternity or incontinence pads

Even one packet can make a difference.

By coming together as a community, we can help ensure that something as essential as managing a period is never a barrier to dignity, comfort or participation in everyday life.

📍 Donations can be placed in our collection point at the centre.

Thank you to our wonderful community for helping us support Share the Dignity and their work to end period poverty in Australia. 🩷

🌿 Celebrating 10 Years of Ebony! 🌿

10 years. What an incredible journey! 💚

Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone - Ebony’s 10 years as part of the AMIGA family! 🎉

Over the past decade, Ebony’s journey has taken her through many different roles and chapters. She began as an Educator, grew into a Room Leader, stepped into the role of Assistant Manager, then took on the exciting challenge of working within Head Office before returning to centre life as Assistant Manager.

That’s a lot of different hats over 10 years! 💚

Through every role, Ebony has gained a unique understanding of AMIGA - from being in the classroom and working alongside children and families, to supporting educators, leading teams and seeing the bigger picture from Head Office.

Her journey is a wonderful reflection of growth, adaptability, dedication and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

And perhaps most importantly, through all those changes, Ebony has continued to be part of the AMIGA story - growing, learning, contributing and making a difference along the way. 🌱

10 years is a major milestone, and one absolutely worth celebrating! 🥂✨

Ebony, thank you for the countless memories, the challenges you've navigated, the people you've supported and everything you have contributed to AMIGA over the past decade.

“I can do it myself!”

Sometimes, the simplest moments hold the biggest learning opportunities.

Today, one of our children prepared her own toast, carefully spreading butter and Vegemite using child-sized utensils and her own little bowls.

It might look like a simple morning routine, but she is developing so much along the way:

~ Building independence and confidence
~ Strengthening fine motor skills and hand control
~ Practising concentration and coordination
~ Learning to use real tools with care
~ Making choices and taking responsibility for her own needs

In Montessori, we believe children deserve meaningful opportunities to participate in everyday life. When we give children the right tools, enough time and the freedom to try, they often show us just how capable they are.

Because sometimes, the best learning happens when we simply step back and let them say:

“I can do it myself.” 🌿

It’s National Cous Cous Day!

Guess what’s on the menu today? 👀

COUS COUS! 🥳

And as luck would have it, National Cous Cous Day falls on the very same day! 🎉

At AMIGA, we love giving children opportunities to explore new foods, textures, tastes and smells — and cous cous is a wonderfully versatile food to discover.

🌾 Tiny grains
👃 A new texture and aroma
🥄 Easy to scoop and serve
😋 And lots of opportunities to decide: “Do I like it?”

Because sometimes food exploration isn't about eating every bite. It’s about seeing it, touching it, smelling it, tasting it and building confidence around food. 💚

So this Wednesday, our cous cous is getting its moment in the spotlight! 🌟

Children’s Day was first held in 1988. Part of the reason it was started was because there were many of our children in orphanages and institutions who did not know their birthday, so Children’s Day was set aside each year to celebrate the birthday of these children.

The day was also needed to give Aboriginal children “confidence and make them feel special and included.” Over the years the day has grown, with more and more events such as morning teas, community BBQs and other celebrations being held.
