Astrophotography competition 'Capture the Cosmos' is running this year. New categories for 18yr and under, smartphone images, and more. Deadline 18th September 2020.

We are pleased to announce that we are running Capture the Cosmos 2020. Some extra categories - web site will be up soon but here is the heads up to get started! Closing date will be 5pm September 18 2020

4 categories

1. Warrumbungle Nightscape Widefield – Any nightscape taken within the Warrumbungle Shire/Warrumbungle Dark Sky Park

2. Night Sky Widefield – Open to all locations in the world using any photographic equipment to capture the night sky

3. Open Deep Space – Deep space objects captured through a telescope.(Photographer must have personally gathered the data)

4. Smartphone Astrophotography - Widefield, solar system or deep space image taken using a smart phone

Additional prize for Youth Category – 18 years of age or under. The judges will determine a youth winner from all of the categories.

The activity was raised as a Guinness World Record Attempt for the MOST NUMBER OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN AN ONLINE SUSTAINABILITY LESSON.

ASDA have created a grant program to get the word out about Light Pollution!

Making change of any type requires a tribe of passionate people. The Australasian Dark Sky Alliance wants to hear your innovative ideas on how to engage the public in night sky friendly initiatives.

Education, understanding and respect for the wonders and benefits of the night time environment is our best chance of preserving it.
