Naggangbi (hello) families,

This week is National Reconciliation Week, held from 27 May to 3 June. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to think about how we can continue walking together towards reconciliation. This year’s theme is “All In”, which reminds us that everyone has a role to play in creating respectful relationships and a more united future.

As the Junior AECG leaders at Macquarie Fields Public School, we are excited to be hosting a Reconciliation Week M***i Day on Wednesday 27th May. We encourage students to wear red, black and yellow to represent Aboriginal culture, or wear the colour purple, which symbolises healing and reconciliation.

We would also love our school community to bring a gold coin donation, with all money raised going towards KARI Aboriginal Resources. KARI is an Aboriginal organisation that supports Aboriginal children, families and communities through cultural, educational and wellbeing programs.

Thank you for supporting us as we recognise the importance of Reconciliation Week together.

We would like to congratulate our very own Mrs Dani Wahapango and Allyra for being selected to represent the Metro West Under 12 Girls Team at the NSWPSSA State AFL Championships in Tamworth last week.

The championships were an incredible experience, with Metro West competing against teams from strong AFL regions where the sport is part of everyday life. Coming predominantly from a rugby league background, the team embraced the challenge with determination, teamwork, and pride, continuing to improve with every game.

The tournament finished on a high with an outstanding 32–0 victory in the final game. Allyra was unstoppable in the back line, reading the play brilliantly and shutting down every attacking opportunity in her favourite position, just like her coach. Her courage, skill, and composure in defence were a highlight of the championships and reflected the spirit and resilience shown by the entire Metro West team.
