This fee-free Aboriginal training program will be delivered at TAFE NSW Macksville, and is designed to support participants to explore business ideas, develop planning skills and build confidence in a culturally safe learning environment.

📣Highlighting our amazing team of fashion design teachers at TAFE NSW Macksville.
💃Meet Deborah Hatley, teacher of Apparel, Fashion & Textiles (Creative, Culture & Experience Services). Deb, who studied and worked in the UK fashion industry brings her experience to Macksville, sharing her creativity and a passion for helping students grow their skills and confidence in the fashion world.
"It’s a great opportunity for the Nambucca Valley and surrounding areas to have such a popular and highly specialised course like this. I love being able to help the students grow and develop their skills and confidence over the year long course."

🪡The Certificate III in Apparel, Fashion & Textiles (MST31022) is open to anyone, from those with zero experience to those who are looking to enhance their existing skills in sewing, drawing, pattern making and designing. Deb guides the students through the production process, from design concept to finished sewn garments, giving them the hands-on skills and knowledge required to work in the fashion industry.

👠🕺The teaching team at Macksville campus, which also includes Melinda Perry and Heather Clarke, were able to highlight their creative talents recently at the Macleay Valley Fashion Show (MVFS). This exciting annual event featured a dynamic runway show exhibiting bold, fresh collections from local designers and industry professionals.
Melinda, who comes more recently to the teaching team brings with her a background in pattern making and apparel production, skills honed from working in the fashion industry in Europe and Australia.
Reflecting on the success of the MVFS evening Melinda said, “It was fantastic to be able to showcase our garments alongside local designers. As a collective, we took the garments from our Certificate III curriculum and used methods and techniques that students learn in the course to modify and create a variety of completely new designs.
It’s also been rewarding to witness the success of our past students who are now growing their own business and showcasing their own collections.”
