Hello folks...There will be no chess played this Tuesday evening. The Mackay Open tournament has worn me out and the Club will be taking a rest for one week.

Next meet will be 25 August which is the week before the next Gardiner Inter-school tournament which is Monday 31 August at MCC primary campus.

Hello Chess Warriors...

The 2026 Mackay Open chess tournament commences Saturday morning at the CQ Uni Mackay Campus, Building 3, Ground floor. Comprising 6 rounds of chess over 15th/16th August.

A big thankyou to our tournament Sponsors for supporting, this Event. Local businesses CMR Recycling and NurseCare Connect AND our latest Sponsor Create Piping, Civil & Mining. Thankyou Ron, Paul and Lachlan.

Another big thankyou to our Arbiter, Mr Michael Darcy, who came on board relatively late after the previous Arbiter was unable to attend.

There are currently 23 Entrants all striving to share in the $5000 prize purse. So if you can play chess, operate a chess clock and complete a score sheet AND have nothing planned for this weekend, consider entering the 2026 Mackay Open chess tournament. Cheers.

Chess is on tonight chess warriors.
Yes...it is a 2nd Tuesday BUT...it is also 4 days from the Mackay Open tournament. I will be bringing clocks and score sheets as well for those wanting to practise.

See you tonight 6pm to 8pm Mirani Room at the Jubilee Community Rooms. Alfred St near the MECC.

WARNING: the MECC carpark might be full depending on the Eisteddfod program.

Chess will be on tonight at the MRC Jubilee Community Rooms across from the MECC. 6pm to 8pm. All are welcome and no 'gear' is required. Mackay Chess Club provides all the boards and pieces...ypu just need to bring yourself. Cheers

Hello Chess Warriors - sorry for the late alert but this just came to my notice. Townsville Chess Club are holding the North Queensland Open this weekend (25/26 July) in Townsville. This tournament hasn't been held for some time so it would be great to support it, as the Townsville CC members support our tournament. Details are below...

The Mackay Chess Club will be hosting the 2026 Mackay Open chess tournament on 15/16 August 2026 at the CQ University / Mackay TAFE at 90/92 Sydney St, Mackay.

This will be a CAQ (Chess Assoc. of Qld) tournament so all participants must be (or become) financial members of CAQ before the tournament commences. This can be easily done through the CAQ web page...$20 for the remaining financial year or $50 for the next 3 years.

Hello all...the chess breakup will NOT be happening tonight. Something has let go in my left knee this morning and I'm no longer upright and in considerable pain

So the short story is, I have not collected the keycard from Council and I won't be opening up.
