🫣 SUPPORTING ANXIOUS LITTLE MINDS 🫣

A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who joined us for our Supporting Anxious Little Minds parent seminar last week.

The evening explored how to recognise anxiety in children, build resilience, and use practical strategies to support children to manage anxious feelings and develop self-regulation skills.

A key message for all of us: we can't always remove life's worries and challenges, but we can help our kids develop the confidence and skills to know they can cope with hard things - a valuable reminder for adults, too.

A huge thank you to Georgie Manning from Wellbeing for Kids for sharing her knowledge and practical strategies with our Lysterfield community!

Our Preps brought their learning to life with a visit to Myuna Farm! πŸ„πŸ‘πŸ“

As part of their Knowledge Rich unit on Farms, students had the chance to see, explore and experience many of the things they’ve been learning about in the classroom.

A wonderful day of connecting knowledge with real-world experiences! 🌾🚜

πŸ”¬ Celebrating National Science Week at Lysterfield Primary School! πŸ§ͺπŸš€

Yesterday, LPS was buzzing with curiosity, creativity and scientific discovery as we celebrated National Science Week with our Science Celebration Day!

Throughout the day, students enjoyed hands-on investigations, experiments, STEM and engineering challenges, and an exciting Big Science, Big Fun live science show.

From investigating dinosaurs, chemical reactions and galaxies to experimenting with Skittles, our students had plenty of opportunities to wonder, question, predict, observe and think like scientists.

Students also proudly showcased the incredible learning taking place through our STEM program, sharing their Sun Chimes, balloon-powered cars, Candle Carousels, wind turbines and Mini Lighthouses with families. It was wonderful to see them confidently explaining the science behind their creations! πŸŒžπŸŽˆπŸ’¨πŸ’‘

And the science celebrations didn’t stop when the school day finished!

🧱 Our LEGO Masters Family Challenge brought families together for an evening of creativity, engineering, imagination and plenty of fun. We were incredibly excited to welcome David Velasquez, winner of LEGO Masters Australia Season 3, who shared his LEGO journey and some expert tips before taking on the very difficult job of judging our family creations!

A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for making the day such a wonderful celebration of science, STEM and learning.

From dinosaurs and chemical reactions to circuits, engineering and LEGO creations; what an incredible way to celebrate National Science Week at LPS! πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺπŸš€πŸ§±

An amazing effort by our Track and Field athletes to win a 5th consecutive District Title. It was a massive team effort with all students smashing their personal best and supporting each other in true Pegasus spirit.

Congrats to all our LysterTRACK team, staff and families for their energy and effort today.

On Monday, the Grade 2s had their very own Poetry High Tea, filled with delicious treats and amazing poems! β˜•οΈπŸ§πŸ“–

As part of our poetry unit, we first analysed β€˜Be a Friend’ by Edgar Albert Guest, exploring how he used rhyme, repetition and rhythm to share a message about friendship. We then used these ideas to create our own poems, drafting, revising and rehearsing before presenting our final poems.

It was wonderful to see the students proudly share their writing and celebrate their learning with their classmates and teachers, whilst enjoying some scrumptious food!

✨ Flashback to one of our favourite days... 100 Days of Prep! ✨

What a milestone to celebrate!

Our classrooms were filled with wise old faces, grey hair and plenty of giggles as our Prep students dressed up to celebrate being 100 days smarter! From wrinkly smiles to walking sticks, the effort and creativity were incredible.

The celebrations didn't stop there. We got crafty by creating self-portraits, completed a range of 100-day activities and reflected on just how much we've learnt since our very first day of school.

Looking back, it's hard to believe just how far our little learners have come in only 100 days. They have grown in confidence, embraced new challenges and discovered a love of learning that shines brighter each day.

We are incredibly proud of every milestone they've achieved and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings as they continue becoming curious, confident and successful learners. πŸ’™

Moo've Over... Prep Farmers at Work!

What a busy knowledge-rich unit it has been in Prep as our classroom transformed into an LPS Farm!

Our little farmers have been hard at work learning all about life on the farm. We've practised shearing our fluffy "sheep", explored how sheep's wool can be used to create warm clothing items, milked our very patient "cow", and built muddy homes for our playdough pigs. There have been plenty of laughs along the way, but even more learning as we discovered just how important farmers and their animals are to our everyday lives.

Our green thumbs have also been put to the test as we planted radish, sweet corn and avocado seeds. They're now happily sprouting and growing in our classroom, and we can't wait to watch them flourish over the coming weeks. 🌱

To wrap up our farm adventures, we created a delicious class fruit salad and became food detectives, exploring the stickers on each piece of fruit to discover where it had travelled from before arriving in our lunch boxes. Farm to fork has never been so much fun! πŸ“πŸ

Following our excellent NAPLAN results, we're equally proud that our 2026 Student Attitudes to School Survey shows our students continue to feel challenged, supported and proud to be part of Lysterfield Primary School.

These results reflect the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and the hard work of our students. Together, we're creating a school where every child can thrive. β€οΈπŸ’™

SOMERS CAMP
Just over a week ago, a group of Grade 5 & 6 students, along with Mr Mac, returned from 9-days at Somers Camp. The camp has representatives from all over the Knox & Dandenong Ranges network, allowing students to connect and thrive in a shared setting. The students participated in a range of activites and experiences, including daily assemblies (lots of singing!), drama, challenge swing, environmental studies with lots of wildlife, orienteering, bike education, rock climbing, abseiling, the flying fox, high ropes course, and much more! Check out the level newsletters this week to hear more about the experience from some of our students.

Well done to everyone who participated. You represented your school, your families and yourself with tremendous respect and pride. We hope the memories are positive and will last a lifetime. Congratulations!
