The term is flying by already! We have welcomed some new children to our preschool this term and are so very pleased at how they have settled in.

Our out door learning environment, particularly the mud kitchen and surrounding nature area is a space of high activity and engagement.

Resourcing ingredients for cooking birthday cakes, making potions or feeding their (role play) pets. Finding new real pets and mini beasts such a โ€œblood wormsโ€ and wondering which end is the headโ€ฆ..

Being brave or adventurous exploring their senses and taking off their shoes to squelch their toes in sticky muddy puddles, and being responsible for their belongings and demonstrating self help changing into kindy gum boots to keep a little clean.

What has been your childโ€™s favourite part of coming to kindy so far?

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children growing up strong in Culture, Community and Country ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

This year's theme, Living Our Truth, honours truth-telling and the passing of knowledge, stories and identity from one generation to the next.

It's a theme that speaks to the heart of the recently launched South Australian Aboriginal Early Childhood Strategy, shaped over two years in genuine partnership with the Aboriginal Co-design Governance Group, the South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation Network and Aboriginal Communities. The Strategy recognises that Aboriginal children, families, Elders and Communities are at the centre of shaping the best outcomes for future generations.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day is being celebrated in early learning services, schools and Communities across the Country through storytelling, Cultural learning, singing, dancing, Aboriginal languages, art and Community gatherings.

As we embrace and celebrate this day, it strengthens our commitment and resolve in prioritising and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in all that we do.

Experiments are such a fun way of learning! Making predictions and wondering why.

For this experiment we provided powder paint, bi carb soda and vinegar. Children help set up the ingredients and collect the required tools. This experiment worked childrenโ€™s fine motor skills and coordination while working the eye droppers, it also showed their ability to regulate and share resources, and patience and wonder while watching the reaction when the ingredients combined.

๐Ÿ™Œ Hands on experiences and curiosity can drive desire to learn. What else are your children curious about?

Today was our first visit to Lyndoch Primary School. We spent time on the oval and playground.
Children were being brave or seeking support from peers or educators. Being up high, on wobbly bridges, having to use strong hands to hang on, and to trust our body to find the next foot or hand hold can be scary!
Lots of learning and noticing - shadows, water reflections, floating, going over and under, turn taking and encouraging our mates. Well done kids! Strong and brave!
