Hey everyone, we're back at Tuggerah Library fortnightly for group and private lessons this term. The group lessons will be running from 2-4pm and are for all ages 17 and under. We'll be trying something new this term, in the form of a side-game for people to play, which we're hoping will improve their tactics in chess. It's experimental, but if you're curious and you'd like to learn more or just want to play with others, feel free to come. The group lesson is 20$ per person, and please contact us with the number below if you're interested in private lessons. Also, due to the distance that needs to be travelled to make this lesson possible, we greatly appreciate confirmation of attendance or absence, since this helps us to plan for numbers or disruption. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Hey all, we're back for term 3 at Goodgames in Maitland for group lessons and private lessons. The group lessons go from 2pm to 3:30pm, and if you are interested in private lessons, please contact us using the number at the bottom of the post. We'll be trying a new activity this term, which we hope everyone can enjoy, so feel free to come if you would like to learn, play, or watch. Morning all, we have another round of puzzles for today. The beginner puzzle is a simple tactic to use to trap your opponent's bishop (black to move). The intermediate puzzle is a nice attack on the king and the rook (black to move). Lastly, the advanced puzzle is a rather unique checkmate with a knight. Please leave feedback in the comments below. Morning all, today's chess puzzles are fairly simple. The beginner puzzle is a classic Mate in 1 with the rook and the queen (white to move). The intermediate puzzle is a useful tactic that you can use to win an opponent's rook in certain situations (white to move). Lastly, our advanced puzzle is from my favorite chess opening, known as the Queen's Gambit. See if you can find how the opening trap works (white to move). Morning all, today we have an interesting set of puzzles to solve. The beginner puzzle is a useful Mate in 2 to remember for your games (White to move); the Intermediate puzzle is a very unique checkmate with two bishops and a king. It'll take you two moves, so good luck (Black to move). Lastly, the advanced puzzle is one of our hardest, so try to think as objectively and disciplined as you can. This is a tactic that is very effective on beginners and can save you in any tournaments (White to move). Please leave any solutions in the comments below. Feedback is appreciated. Good luck!

Morning all, we're focussing on a position that is extremely common in chess. The opening this is from is called "The Italian Game", and anyone who is familiar with it has already learned a great deal of chess opening theory. The beginner puzzle is a simple punishment for Black forgetting about their bishop (white to move); the intermediate puzzle is a nice checkmate tactic that White can use on the more ignorant player (white to move); and the advanced puzzle shows how White can win a free pawn and even get a strong position for their queen if Black isn't careful. Morning all. Today we have a variety of positions including two checkmates. The beginner puzzle shows a very common tactic at the beginner level called a Rook Lift. This position also shows how White can punish this (white to move). The intermediate puzzle is fairly straightforward, so I won't give any hints. It's simply a checkmate in one move (white to move). Lastly, our advanced puzzle is a more complicate checkmate. It should take you six moves to win, so get the chessboard out and start brainstorming. Good luck!

Morning all, today's chess puzzles are up and good to go. The beginner puzzle is a fun checkmate that you can pull off in most games if you have a knight and a queen (black to move); the intermediate puzzle is a simple trade that gives Black a slight material advantage (black to move); and the advanced puzzle is another checkmate, but it's much more complicated and it should take you three moves. Morning all. Here are today's chess puzzles. The beginner puzzle is a position from an opening that has recently grown on me called the "Polish Opening". See if you can find which piece White is meant to take (white to move). The second puzzle is a test to see if you can promote White's pawn in spite of Black's defense (white to move). Finally, the advanced puzzle is one of the hardest checkmate puzzles I've seen in a while, so if you want a serious challenge, here it is. Please leave a comment with the move you think is best in each position and I'll let you know if you're correct. Good luck!
