🌅 Introducing Positive Behaviour for Learning at Western Alliance

We are excited to be taking the next step in building a positive, consistent and supportive learning culture across Western Alliance – Mount Isa & Longreach.

This year, we have been working with our students, staff and community to develop our PBL Mission Statement and Expectations — ensuring that the voice of our Western Alliance community is at the heart of what we do.

Our shared vision is simple:
📚 We Are Learners
🤝 We Are Respectful
🛡️ We Are Safe

These expectations provide a common language for how we learn, connect and work together across our secondary distance education community.

So, what’s next?
Our next step is developing our Behaviour Matrix, which will bring these expectations to life by clearly outlining what We Are Learners, We Are Respectful and We Are Safe look, sound and feel like in different settings.

Just as we explicitly teach the curriculum — whether that’s Maths, English, Science or Humanities — we also need to teach the behaviours we expect. We don’t assume students automatically know what successful learning looks like in every situation; we teach it, model it, practise it and reinforce it.

PBL is the same. It’s all about the learning. 📚

Our Behaviour Matrix will guide the explicit teaching of positive behaviours, giving students clear, consistent and positive guidance about the behaviours that help everyone learn and succeed.

PBL is about more than behaviour — it is about building belonging, strengthening relationships and creating the conditions for every student to thrive.

We are incredibly excited to begin this journey with our students, families, staff and community.

⚽️🏏ICPA Sports Camp🤾‍♂️🏈

What an incredible few days for our LSODE students at the Clermont Sports Camp!

28 LSODE students attended the ICPA Clermont Sports Camp, where they had the opportunity to get active and try their hand at a huge range of sports, including golf, soccer, AFL, cricket, rugby league, softball, tennis and netball.

Throughout the camp, students developed new sporting skills, challenged themselves, built confidence and, most importantly, connected with students from many different locations. It was wonderful to see them getting involved, having a go and forming new friendships along the way.

Our students had an amazing time and came away with plenty of great memories!

A huge thank you to the Clermont Sports Camp crew for providing such a fun, welcoming and memorable experience for our LSODE students.

Congratulations to Roper, Lacey, Clair, Bronte, Indi, Jos, Darcy, Monty, Toby, Indy, Annabelle, April, Xander, Jayna & Jayna who participated at the North West Athletics Trials in Longreach.

🏃‍♀️WALLY RAE ATHLETICS DAY🏃

Congratulations to those students who participated at the Wally Rae Athletics Day in Isisford last week.

LSODE were awarded the Overall Aggregate Points Winner - well done superstars! A number of students received age champion for the day: Clancy, Alexandra, Roper, Anna, Indy, Hamish & Zara. Wally was awarded the boys sportsmanship award. LSODE REPRESENT!

A big thank you to the crew at Isisford State School, and volunteers for hosting a great event. Also a big shoutout to Isisford P&C and Yaraka-Isisford ICPA for covering the costs of catering for our students.
