Many early years services are opting for a zero digital foot print publicly online and quite frankly I'm loving leaving my phone in the car!

Thank you to the ecec services that have privately booked me this week for incursions.

I enjoyed offering whittling, shelter building, mud kitchens and loose parts play with you all.

The children showed enthusiasm, joy, imagination, determination, strength, skill and most importantly used play to achieve all of these things as well as things we can't always see or hear like belonging, trust, empowerment and peace.

Here is a photo of the back of my ute after my pack up and a huge gum tree you can easily be mesmerised by.

What a beauty!

πŸ’š Happy World Youth Day πŸ’š

Play access for primary school aged children is very important to me and my work. Particularly risky play that gives children a chance to try challenging things, make mistakes and feel a sense of mastery.

When I offer "Bush Kindy For Big School" I often hear teachers say .. "Oh, the grade 6's probably won't join in".

When in fact it's often them who play the longest, the deepest and with the most support for their younger peers.

I was fortunate as a Play Australia member to attend the online launch of the Australian position paper on play for 9-15’s yesterday evening.

It was brilliant to see so many young speakers sharing their experiences from the heart with such confidence and clarity.

I can't wait to see how this paper will continue to get play opportunities "over the line" in such a heavily regulated education system ...to those that need it most... particularly in outdoor spaces where risky play is mostly found.

Well done Play Australia and to all those involved.

I am proud to be a Children's Rights Queensland Alliance Member and stand alongside a long list of incredible organisations promoting and upholding childrens rights across Queensland.

Currently my Bush Kindy Teaching - Mobile Children's Programs and Bush Kindy Learning - Professional Development workshops are focussed on this commitment.

www.bushkindy.com.au

My work is centred around equal access to place-based nature play across age groups and abilities.

Currently, I am providing free bush playgroups to the communities of Logan, North Brisbane and Ipswich.

I also believe children have the right to play safely in natural green public spaces, so I'm a strong advocate for the community getting outdoors together to keep each other safe. For this reason, I also provide free training for parents and caregivers.

The programs remain free because I seek funding from local councils and private organisations and businesses.

I also work with early years education and care services to embed child-led practices in nature, ensuring children's voices are heard and supporting children's development holistically.

I'm also a speaker at conferences and professional development sessions. I recently ran two workshops at the Planning for Play event hosted by The Outsiders Play Advocates, where my talk focused on the importance of playing WITH children and understanding their experience through their eyes.

I've also applied for a Children's Rights Grant to make a book with children about Bush Kindy from their perspective, honouring children's right to have a voice, openly talk about their experiences, re-read them with each other, and share their wisdom about their own lives with adults and peers.

I hope that gives a snapshot of my current projects.

Say πŸ‘‹πŸΌ Hi if you too are an Alliance Member!

Who's coming to play?

TWO WORKSHOPS!

With Bush Kindy Learning

Reclaiming the Play Instinct: How Rediscovering Our Nature Play Impulse Transforms Pedagogy.

We often support children’s play without truly entering the mindset ourselves.

In this hands-on session, we’ll explore what happens when adults return to their own play instincts.

Beginning with a brief look at how the mind loses its intrinsic motivation over time, we’ll then dive into unstructured nature play.

Through laughter, freedom, and a little chaos, we’ll observe how our moods and interactions shift and what this reveals about authenticity, control, and connection.

Together, we’ll reflect on how reclaiming our own play impulse can reshape the way we co-create learning with children.
