The last week has been spent lunging to build fitness, balance and relaxation in all paces while also teaching him voice cues for each pace I can use to pair with leg cues once I'm on him. We have also been doing in hand work to teach the rein aid cues and also I use my hip and a whip to minick my leg cues for when I'm on him and we have also been building g trust in each other and we have made it to sitting on his back. We have also been practising moving off with me lying over him to check hes OK with it before I do it astride him. To be honest he's not concerned about me being up there, his owner has done alot of work herself, my biggest issue is getting him to pay attention to what I'm asking of him and stop him from trying to chew on my reins, butt or feet!

Progress update, last week Floki started lunging to build his fitness and strength he wasn't to impressed with canter on the lunge but he is coming along well, while lunging I've added the saddle and bridle, then had to spend some time working out how to get one of my saddles to fit. Hes very broad over his back and therefore needs my widest gullet saddle but then he's got no wither and the saddle was slipping forward, but I think I have it sorted now, guess we will know for sure when I start getting on. Have started in hand work of the halter and today transferred to working off the bridle, he's picking it up nicely but a couple more sessions should have it nailed with a nice soft contact, we have also been training to line up to the mounting block and today I started working on getting him to accept some weight on his back leaning over him. He's doing really well even with the added distraction of one of my mares coming in season and spending each session following him up and down the fence line on the otherside of the driveway posing for him. So we may have progressed slightly faster without that distraction but he did very well considering and behaved beautifully keeping his mind mostly on work, just needed constant reminders to focus.

Introducing Floki (Ro Cookies and Cream) a lovely Stallion here to be broken in. Really looking forward to bringing this one along, I really enjoy working with stallions. Had a good session just getting to know each other today, basic yielding and manners. This week will be predominantly all groundwork because although his owner has done a great job he and I need to also spend time getting to know each other making sure we are communicating and he understands exactly what i am looking for before I ask him to do new things.

More of today's ride.

But the truth is that wildstar has quite the opinion, she has apparently been watching the other horses get ridden and decided that she doesn't want to do the same. I usually get horses saying nope, this looks alot like work around the 6 week mark when walk trot and canter is all established and all rein and leg cues have been taught, but she's way ahead of the game and saying nope now and I don't have confidence she understands all the aids yet to use them as effectively as normally would to stop the behaviour, so there is some swapping between ridden and inhand work to teach aids and safely get her past this point without her learning any nasty habits, though this horse is not nasty at all, just very stubborn and would much prefer to sleep in the paddock or be pampered and loved on while tied up, actual work is not on her list of things to do.

Also today, now that the walk is established we are working on the trot, there are moments that look really nice and I could post just this and all would look lovely

Wildstar today, got a few videos to post as for some reason Facebook won't let me do it in one. Have had a bit of a set back as realised she was not happy in a normal snaffle bit, hence alot of the past head tossing after a week of trying different bits and their actions i have worked out she can't tolerate anything that squeezes the jaw and she doesn't like tongue pressure so have started riding her in a curved Mullen mouth which she is gaining confidence in and is now happy to share a contact with, its just put us back a week working out what she likes but also helping her to regain confidence in trusting the bit in her mouth. But much happier now in her walk work.

Wildstar has been progressing nicely and this week we have started the ridden work. All week she has been taking everything in her stride, however today, possibly because my daughter had started feeding the other horses and she wanted to go to her feed also, or maybe she just decided that she would test weather following the rein aids was negotiable she was fighting the rein aids some today and trying to pull/shake her way away from following the feel of the rein. She finished the session following the rein nicely but a few more sessions i think are needed before we start trot. But she is handling my weight well and except for the head shaking today she had no more wobbles in her walk so she has good balance now. Although now she has balance that could also be why she felt confident enough to test if things were negotible or not today.

Welcome to Wildstar, she's a gorgeous pony who arrived at the start of this week to be started undersaddle. So far we have got through the very basics of the groundwork. She has picked up the cues quickly and remembers everything from one day to the next. Today I put the lunge roller on her after preparing her for a girth and she took it like a pro. Her owners have done a great job with her initial handling possibly she has already had one on??
