We are incredibly proud to celebrate Sydney Sanskrit School student Sion Chakalabbi, who studies in Year 8 at Macarthur Anglican School, for showcasing exceptional comparative study and intercultural understanding at the Aristotle Showcase 2026! Inspiring his project by this year’s theme, ‘Roots & Blooms’, Sion turned a personal spark of curiosity—noticed while studying Indonesian at school—into a deep academic investigation into how the linguistic roots of Sanskrit bloomed across South-East Asia, specifically in Indonesia, China, and European languages. Through weeks of dedicated research, feedback, and refinement, Sion beautifully demonstrated his core theme, “Language is the vehicle of culture,” by illustrating how historical trade, migration, and the spread of Buddhism facilitated a massive exchange of loan words across Indonesian, Chinese, other European languages, and even modern English (with words like avatar, karma, and sugar / sarkarah). Sion’s brilliant multimodal presentation left visitors completely amazed, standing as a wonderful celebration of purposeful learning, academic depth, and the vibrant global connections of ancient languages.
This achievement was made possible through the invaluable guidance and vision of Dr Meena Srinivasan ji from the Sydney Sanskrit School, alongside Sion's Indonesian teacher at Macarthur Anglican School, who both poured their expertise into multiple interviews and collaborative brainstorming sessions. Because Indonesian is proudly taught at Macarthur, this profound comparative study served as a true eye-opener for juniors, peers, teachers, and school leadership alike, sparking a deeper appreciation for cultural interconnectedness.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these mentors for nurturing such purposeful learning and inspiring the entire school community to appreciate the timeless, global roots that unite us all.👏👏🎉

One of Sydney Sanskrit School’s senior students, Thalin Nandish Nagarle, was recently selected to represent India at Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) Australia, an international program where students role‑play as countries to discuss global issues. Thalin served in UNESCO, the UN body focused on culture, education, and heritage, where he spoke on protecting endangered languages and promoting multilingual education. During these four days, he gave passionate speeches about India's three language formula, using knowledge of his mother tongue Kannada and Sanskrit to relate to the relevant situation of how to preserve endangered languages, from an Indian successful point of view. Drawing on his years of Sanskrit study, he showcased how cultural knowledge can shape global conversations. The school community is proud to see Thalin bring India’s voice and his passion for language, to an international stage.

🏆 Commemoration of Cultural Excellence: Vidwan Arjun Bharadwaj Addresses Sydney Sanskrit School and Natyanivedan
Sydney Sanskrit School and Natyanivedan this evening hosted a distinguished event featuring an enlightening guest lecture on the Natyashastra by the esteemed scholar, Vidwan Arjun Bharadwaj. The proceedings commenced formally with a respectful Welcome to Country, followed by a traditional Prarthana and an opening address by the senior teacher of Sydney Sanskrit School. Following the auspicious Deepajwalanam ceremony performed by the attending dignitaries, the evening celebrated a significant academic milestone: the presentation of official credentials to forty accomplished students of Natyanivedan, who successfully qualified in the Adhya, Madhya, and Purna level examinations administered by Sanchari Bharath under the Central Government of India. The subsequent discourse by Vidwan Arjun Bharadwaj provided profound insights into the structural and philosophical dimensions of the ancient treatise, elucidating the complex concepts of rasa, bhava, abhinaya, and the intrinsic spiritual essence of the performing arts. Delivered with exceptional clarity and dedication, the presentation transitioned into a highly engaging and interactive session with the audience.
In a notable exchange, Sydney Sanskrit School student Rishi demonstrated the practical application of these classical concepts by explaining the Vamana Avatara from a theatrical production previously staged for Samskrutotsava. Demonstrating the rigour of traditional oral learning, Arjunji recited a shloka detailing the eleven vibhagas (divisions) of the Natyashastra and inquired if any student possessed the traits of an ekasandhigrahi—an individual capable of reproducing text from memory after a single hearing. Showcasing exceptional aptitude, Sion of Sydney Sanskrit School successfully committed the verse to memory and recited it accurately after hearing it only a couple of times. This interactive dynamic left a profound impression on the young audience, effectively reinforcing the preservation, promotion, and foundational understanding of classical Indian heritage. The memorable event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Vid. Nikhila Kiran, extending sincere appreciation to the guest speaker for sharing his invaluable expertise.
