Someone said I need a little more greenery in my space. Well here it is.

You may have been in this situation yourself...

Billy, aged 12 months, comes into the room and you wave happily saying “Good morning Billy!”

Billy stares at you... so you say “Hiya. Can you say hi? Are you going to wave Billy?” 🤔

Billy doesn’t respond so you stop and move on.

Suddenly, Billy starts waving 👋 and says “Hiya”.




So what happened there? Why the pause? What was Billy thinking?

The Communication Chain.

We take for granted how easily communication comes to us. An adults brain speeds through this process, because we’re experts! We’ve been talking for years.

We need to allow time for a child’s brain to complete each step.

It can feel uncomfortable, so we tend to fill the silence with more language. But this only makes the process even more confusing.

Give them time. ⏱
