Sometimes making a new friend begins with one brave little “hello”. 💛

Friendships are such an important part of early childhood, but knowing how to approach someone, join a game, begin a conversation or recognise how another person might be feeling are skills children develop over time.

After noticing that some of our Felice children were feeling a little unsure about reaching out and making new connections, our educators created a playful experience to explore friendship together.

With the help of Mr Frog, the children practised introducing themselves, starting conversations, reading facial expressions and body language, and thinking about what they might do if they noticed someone feeling sad or alone.

Their responses reminded us just how thoughtful young children can be:

💬 “Can you play with me?”
💬 “Nice to meet you.”
💬 “Ask them if they are okay?”
💬 “Say hello to them, ask them to play with me.”
💬 “Smile at them.”

Using a puppet gave children a safe and playful way to experiment with these social situations without the pressure of getting everything “right”. They could practise, laugh, try again and learn from one another.

Because friendship isn't simply something that happens.

It grows through confidence, communication, kindness, empathy and connection. ❤️

Community connections bring learning to life. 🦷✨
Today, the children welcomed Smile Life Dental Leichhardt to Bambini for a hands-on dental health incursion.

Through stories, demonstrations and playful practice, the children explored how to care for their teeth, why brushing is important and what they might experience when visiting the dentist. Using a friendly puppet helped make the learning approachable, engaging and fun.

Real-life experiences like this build children’s confidence and help connect their everyday learning with the wider community. They also give children opportunities to ask questions, practise new skills and develop positive attitudes towards looking after their health and wellbeing.

Thank you to Smile Life Dental Leichhardt for sharing your time, knowledge and plenty of smiles with us. 💚

What happens when little hands meet clay, leaves, sticks and pinecones? 🌿

Today, our Piccolini children explored clay alongside a collection of natural materials, including leaves, branches, pinecones and wooden pieces.

The children rolled, pressed, poked, squeezed and shaped the clay, discovering how their movements changed its form. As they pushed natural objects into the clay, they noticed the different marks, patterns and textures each material created.

This open-ended experience encouraged the children to make choices, test ideas and explore cause and effect at their own pace. Working alongside one another also created opportunities to observe, imitate, communicate and share the materials.

Through this sensory play, the children strengthened the small muscles in their hands, developed coordination and control, and built confidence as capable learners.

At Bambini, we know that meaningful learning often begins with simple materials, curious hands and the freedom to explore. 🤎

🌍 Where in the world do animals belong?

What began with one thoughtful question, “What does habitat mean?” opened the door to a rich investigation of animals and the environments they depend on.

The Grandi children explored a range of habitats, including the savannah, woodland, ocean, Arctic and desert. As they examined each environment, they carefully sorted animals according to where they believed they belonged.

The children shared their knowledge, explained their reasoning and listened to one another’s ideas. They compared possibilities, negotiated decisions and considered what each animal might need to find food, water, shelter and safety.

Through this hands-on experience, the children strengthened their observation, classification, scientific vocabulary, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Most importantly, their curiosity guided the learning.

At Bambini, intentional teaching begins by noticing children’s interests and creating opportunities for them to investigate, question and make meaning together.

Which habitat would your child be most excited to explore? 🐘🐧🐠🦊

Children’s voices are an important part of life at Bambini.

We love hearing children’s ideas, questions and observations. Their voices shape our programs and remind us just how capable, thoughtful and creative they are.

Children contribute in many different ways; through conversations, drawings, movement, play, signs, questions and spontaneous comments. When children share what helps them feel safe, ask for privacy, reflect on an experience or suggest what they would like to explore next, educators listen carefully and respond.

By documenting and revisiting children’s perspectives, we show them that their ideas are valued and that they can meaningfully influence the world around them.

At Bambini, children are not simply participants in the program. They are active contributors whose voices help guide our learning, environments and practices.

Every child has the right to be heard.

🤎 Belonging is where learning begins.

Before children can explore, create and grow, they need to feel something even more important…

They need to know they belong.

At Bambini, belonging is woven into the everyday moments that make children feel safe, recognised and valued. It's seeing family photos displayed proudly, recognising familiar routines, celebrating each child's culture and identity, and creating environments that feel like a second home.

These small details may seem simple, but they send a powerful message:

"You matter here."

When children experience genuine belonging, they develop the confidence to take risks, build friendships, express their ideas and become active participants in their own learning.

Because before children discover the world, they first need to discover that they have a place within it.

🤎 What helps your child feel like they belong? We'd love to hear in the comments.

🍕 Welcome to Tesorini's Pizzeria!

Sometimes the richest learning begins with nothing more than a cardboard box, a little imagination and educators who see possibility.

At Tesorini's Pizzeria, children became chefs, customers, problem-solvers and storytellers. As they designed pizzas, took orders, shared ingredients and served one another, they were developing so much more than pretend play.

They were building confidence, language, creativity, early mathematics, social skills and teamwork, all through joyful, meaningful experiences that felt like play.

This is the power of play-based learning.

When children are given the freedom to imagine, create and collaborate, they don't just make pizzas…

They make friendships.
They make discoveries.
They make memories.

❤️ What might your child create today if they had the freedom to play?

Community Connections

Children thrive when they feel connected to the people and places around them.
At Bambini of Lilyfield, community is not something we talk about, it is something we experience together.
Neighbourhood walks, caring for animals, meeting local residents and connecting with older students help children develop confidence, empathy and a genuine sense of belonging. These everyday experiences encourage children to ask questions, build relationships and discover that they are valued members of a wider community.
Every walk, every conversation and every shared experience becomes an opportunity to strengthen children's understanding of respect, kindness and citizenship.
Because belonging isn't taught through worksheets.
It's built one connection at a time.

🌿 Sustainability in Play 🌿

Some of the most powerful lessons children learn don't come from worksheets, they come from caring for the world around them.

At Bambini, recycled materials, natural treasures and open-ended resources become invitations to explore, create and problem-solve. Whether investigating our compost station, transforming loose parts into imaginative creations or discovering the beauty of nature through play, children are developing an understanding that every small action can make a difference.

By weaving sustainability into everyday experiences, we're nurturing curious minds, creative thinkers and future caretakers of our environment.

Because when children learn to value the world around them, they're helping to shape a brighter future for us all. 💚

Where does early literacy begin?

Literacy begins long before children learn to read and write. Through stories, conversations, drawing and shared experiences, children are developing language, comprehension, vocabulary and a deep love of books.

At Bambini, we value these everyday moments as powerful opportunities to nurture confident communicators and joyful learners.
