Poetry In Action

Poetry In Action Poetry brought to life through performance We offer the rare opportunity to see poetry bought to life through performance.

For ten years POETRY IN ACTION has been providing students and teachers across the country unique inspiration, entertainment and, most importantly, education. Our shows are designed specifically to meet the study requirements of students across the country. Once you’ve had us in you’ll wonder how you ever taught poetry without us! Our team of 3 young, dynamic actors perform unique shows designed t

o connect with and inspire high school students of all ages and abilities. Poems are performed as comic scenes, dramatic monologues, character studies, classical recitations and contemporary interpretations, making poetry accessible and easier to study. The PIA team will visit your school and deliver a powerhouse 45-minute performance followed by a question and answer session.

Every two weeks, Poetry In Action joins Eleanor Godley on 2SER for our Poetry 101 series, a chance to talk about poetry not simply as something we read, but something we hear, perform and feel.

Below is a link to hear our Artistic Director, Bryce Youngman, critique poems written by the 2SER team. One of my favourite moments is hearing Bryce re-read the work in performance mode, demonstrating just how much rhythm, emphasis and delivery can change the way a poem lands.

And now, we’d love to hear yours.

Share a poem below, and Bryce will respond to it. It can be polished, unfinished, funny, deeply personal, strange or something you've quietly had sitting in a notebook for years.

If you'd prefer not to share publicly, send it to me privately via DM.
As we enter this last week of winter, perhaps it's a good time to open up a little expression.

Shed a few leaves. Put something into words. And bloom. 🌱

And tune in to 2SER at 10:15am this Friday to hear Thuy On take up the Poetry 101 microphone and explore another poetry topic with Eleanor.

Poetry belongs to everyone. We'd love to read yours.

Team Raven's road trip has range 🐦🚐

168km to Darwin via Batchelor, 131km via Berry Springs — either way, we take the scenic route (and yes, we stopped for a swim at Wangi Falls, purely for research purposes 💦).

Three Poetry in Action tour legends bringing spoken word to Litchfield Timber High and every stop along the B30. Sand-written proof that Team Raven was here, sunset selfies included, and not a single kilometre wasted; every km logged is another young person inspired to write, speak and feel through poetry and many seeing live theatre for the first time.

That's the job: three actors, one van, a whole lot of highway, and a national tour that doesn't stop for anything except waterfalls.

Darwin, oh Darwin, we travelled quite a heap,
Team Raven's left their mark from the Nut Track to your street. 🖤

Happy NAIDOC week! During NAIDOC 2026, we reflect on the Poetry In Action First Nations program and working with our friend, advisor and Indigenous Teaching Artist, Neville Williams Boney, for students at Papunya. This work is based on Warnayarra, the Rainbow Snake.

20 years, and the story continues

Poetry in Action reporting for duty:

flowers, flair, dramatic poses and just enough chaos to bring poetry to life. 🐦‍⬛🎭

Behind every school show is a team ready to jump between characters, poems, punchlines and big ideas — all before the bell rings.

Poetry? Performed.

Drama? Delivered.

Props? Absolutely necessary.

Team Raven tour update:

poetry performed, stages conquered, snacks secured. 🐦‍⬛🥐

Between school shows, road trips, theatre seats, riverside views and very important bakery stops, Team Raven has been busy bringing words to life wherever the tour takes them.

Thanks to every school and student who welcomed us along the way. Same team, same chaos, same mission: making poetry feel alive.

During a recent Poetry in Action performance at Banksia Park International High School in South Australia, relief teacher Dominic Cavallaro was inspired to write a poem while watching the show.

Afterwards, he approached the cast and asked if one of our actors would read it aloud.

So they did.

Moments like this remind us why live performance matters. Poetry is not just something to study — it is something that can spark a response in real time. A line, a feeling, a thought, a voice suddenly finding its way onto the page.

Thank you, Dominic, for sharing your words with us.

Thank you to Get Sydney for spotlighting Poetry in Action’s next chapter.

After 20 years of bringing poetry to life in schools, we’re stepping onto the public stage with Rhyme Battle Royale at the State Library of NSW these July school holidays.

This special performance opens the energy, play and power of live poetry to families, young people and the wider public — because poetry isn’t just something we study. It’s something we live.
